Nice! I am THRILLED to hear you're leaning more into your horror writing. They were some of the strongest segments in TLT & Ghosts. Keen to see what you can do when you go full super goblin mode.
ОтветитьDespite watching you for a few years I haven't tried any of your other books because they aren't what I'm looking for genre-wise right now, but Better Dead sounds really cool and I'm looking forward to finally (eventually) reading something from you. I'm not big into horror, but survival horror fantasy sounds like it could be awesome.
ОтветитьDid you go to seminary or bible college? Your Greek shows in your writing.
ОтветитьGood luck sir! I look forward to reading your new works.
ОтветитьYaaaaaaas Daniel! I love how excited you are for this! I'll definitely pick it up and give it a shot! :D
ОтветитьThe whiteboard concept works well - just watched the genre video before this one and enjoyed it :) An idea is not just explain the plot of a book or series, but maybe talk about inspirations, the author's background, and maybe even peek behind the scenes and talk about why an author wrote something the way they did (being an author yourself with insight into author-y techniques)
ОтветитьNow we need weekly writing updates on Monday, Fantasy news Tuesday, and one other video a week to keep the lights on.
ОтветитьI would love to see you try and explain Malazan on a whiteboard, I can see the chaos now...
ОтветитьThis was a solid format. I really enjoyed this!
ОтветитьI was excited for Better Dead, and loved the preview. I hope it will be released eventually as a book. Seeing your preview of Best Deader, I'm even more excited. I agree, your horror sequences are what I enjoyed most in Lawful Times, and look forward to a story where that's the focus.
ОтветитьCongrats on your progress Daniel. I, and I'm sure a lot of other aspiring writers, find it really inspiring to see your success. Keen to read Better Dead when it comes out
ОтветитьBetter Dead 2 sounds pretty cool actually.
ОтветитьLove the white board premise! Would love to see more!
Ответитьcongrats daniel :)
ОтветитьIf anyone wants an example of how difficult it is for the average person to get an agent, I've been querying for ten years and never got so much as a request.
ОтветитьI really want to read this. I do not want to wait, lol.
ОтветитьInterested in whiteboard shenanigans.
ОтветитьIf you can explain Dust of Dreams to me on a whiteboard that would be great 😂
ОтветитьYes please explain Malazan on a whiteboard! That would be so epic!!
ОтветитьWhiteboard good 👍
ОтветитьI wasnt sure where to ask this. But will you be selling your neon ghosts book at Dragonsteel Nexus? I'd love to buy one and get it signed by you if possible. I unfortunately missed the Kickstarter. Thank you
ОтветитьAny plans for Neon Ghosts to go onto Apple Books?
Would the physical TLT#3 paperback match the first two?
Yep, one of the hardest lessons I had to learn was that yes, you should 'write your truth' as they say, and be oroiginal - BUT you need to select a truth that can sell too, otherwise it's useless to agents and publishers. Write the story you want to tell, but before you do, make sure it's something people want, because like it or not as an author you have to write for the people just as much as for yourself.
ОтветитьSounds fun good luck
ОтветитьWhat an amazing journey you're on. Can't want to read the book!
ОтветитьI love the idea of a Daniel explains series! I'd love to see someone do a video like that for The Locked Tomb series.
ОтветитьHow do you think AI is affecting publishers? My daughter has an agent but the publishing company is firing people left , right and center.
ОтветитьThanks for the insight on your publishing journey. Having worked for a big bookstore chain for many years at different positions i always find that kind of content super interesting.
And having read Breach of peace, horror is indead a huge strenght of yours!
I’d personally prefer you just doing videos like this about book publishing and following your journey to hopefully a successful novel release
ОтветитьThe one thing people must not forget is minority of successful authors make so much money they don’t need a day job and your first book with traditional will not have royalties but depending on its sales can increase the money you get for you next book and more money comes in each book as well as royalties and control as you sell more.
ОтветитьAgents definitely can be big issue and traditional publishers won’t even touch you without one. Great video for other — yeah if you go into trad publishing then prepare for changes because the whole thing will be an exchange not you just doing what you want and profit or sales is used as dirty weird by artists sometimes when it reality to make money sometimes changes are made.
ОтветитьWhy did Daniel make another book idea that I like... MY WALLET!!!!!!
ОтветитьI don’t see how a publisher buying your book is any different than a t-shirt company making and selling your merch. No doubt you have proved that your writing sells, just like Mr Beast sells chocolate bars at wal mart.
ОтветитьHaving you run through the Malazan books this way would be so fun. I’m 100% for whiteboard shenanigans!!
ОтветитьA Witch's Sin works as a stand alone? Or has an open ending?
ОтветитьYes, to the whiteboard explanation.
ОтветитьWho is your agent?
ОтветитьI'll never understand the sentiments of the US trad publishing world. The first BD version sounded dope as hell!
Like, what's their problem? Your not supposed to make profit off of terrorism? Get too political? I seriously don't get it. Maybe I'm just dumb, but to me this sounds like a narrative that copes with collective trauma, and wouldn't that be a good thing? Like, what did I miss?
Congratulations Daniel! As for the whiteboard presentations shenanigans that would be remarkable!
ОтветитьCongrats!
And yes! Do that please!
I, for one, would absolutely be into whiteboard shenanigans plot synopses.
ОтветитьLost 2.0
ОтветитьThe final white board should be the official book cover
ОтветитьAny updates on the Goblin Legal novel you did for NaNoWriMo?
ОтветитьCongrats, man!!
ОтветитьFunny how a white board with markers is so desired when living in a techno-centric, AI-dominated, universe. Will using a white board ever go out of style? I hope not! The new high-tech boards are amazing with colored pens and tap-the-screen writing with your finger. But hey. Just give me a white board from Michael's.
ОтветитьI think it's important to note that your platform may be a privilege, but it isn't as if it's an unearned privilege.
