I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, 1989-2015. Were peoples pets being stolen and eaten. Yes. Was this legal or illegal migrants. No. Maybe a few did this, but overall, no. Homeless people were the perpetrators of this. Was it common, no. Did it happen, yes. My own sister had her dog stolen out of her yard, and the dog was eaten by a homeless person. How do I know this? Because CPD found her dogs remains in a homeless encampment where the dog had been cooked. They found the dogs collar with tags and notified her. Now, the homeless individuals in question told the PD they didn't steal the dog but found it wandering around. While obviously a lie, there was no supporting evidence that they stole the dog. They did admit to eating the dog, though, at the time this occurred in 2007, it wasn't necessarily illegal according to the CPD. It wasn't until 2018 that the federal government passed a law that banned the consumption of cats and dogs by humans.

So, in Ohio, have people stolen pets to eat them, yes. I'm sure this has occurred in many other states as well in the past. Is it a wide scale common thing, no.

Sorry but Haitians eat cats and dogs. Ducks? Absolutely.
Just like Philippinos eat dogs.
It’s meat. It’s just not meat that our culture is used to.

Sometimes I can't wait for my town to be on the news for an awful right wing rumor. I would love to see people start saying "I live in ##### and I can confirm this is true". Just watch the outright lying taking place in my own backyard.

You spent 20 minutes pontificating, yet you have not proven nor disproved a damn thing. Now, I don't really believe that Haitians are going after everybody's pets, however it is possible that one or two, or a few of these events did actually happen. If you want to be seen as a trusted authority, you're going to have to do a better job backing up your statements.

Rural Conservatives: "Everyone is forgetting us, all the people are leaving! We need people to stay and come here to fill all of our jobs and revitalize our communities!"
Rest of the Country: "Cool, there are a lot of immigrants who want to be in the US, here you go!"
Rural Conservatives: "NOT THOSE PEOPLE!"

My mom is a psycho vegan so I've thought a lot about the morality of eating animals, and why we eat certain ones but not others.

It literally is occams razor. Animals that are domesticated tend to have a specific purpose to a degree. It's weird to misuse them. Livestock have always been for food, dogs have always been for companionship, cats have always been for pest control, horse's and mules have been for transportation.

Some cultures break the standard, but there isn't really a good reason to stop the current system of what we do and dont eat.

I even spent hours reading about the concept of using pigeons as a food stock and its surprisingly way less gross than it sounds. If you can keep things somewhat clean, you can have a constant source of food that lives on your property and has a secondary use as a courier. Genuinely consider pigeons as an apocalypse food source over chickens.

A broad-brush statement said by a politician - to make a point. Much like the DEMs, when they say the border is closed / secure. Which statement is more outrageous? Which "problem" is bankrupting whole cities and states, causing over 200,000 Fentanyl deaths a year, rise in crime rates, loss of benefits for citizen, .....
Are we outraged when American Tongans pit cook animals in their back yard on a spit? Are we outraged when some American Indians kill, cook and eat horses? How about the time when Asian American students at Rogers State College in Claremore OK trapped, killed, cooked and ate all the swans raised by the College? Remember that the term "THEY" or "WE" does not mean every single person in a location or situation. Take a breath.

Racism McBeth, immigrant panic. It would be nice to think Trump made an honest mistake, look at the immense volume of immigrant panic he spreads about anyone not white. If you don't call a spade a spade you'll end up posting a video about Hitler's valid misunderstanding about the Jews.

Always thought this notion that it’s specifically Haitians was racist and xenophobic. I lived in California 95% of my life (moved to SC thankfully) and would not be in the SLIGHTEST surprised to see the thousands of homeless, who are Americans, eating animals. I’m not trying to be unempathetic but I saw some stuff living in that state in bad neighborhoods from Americans that would put these “Haitians” to shame. Bad people do bad things, its how it is.

Nice statistical analysis /obfuscation. Trouble is I've seen the local cops turning up (after dark) to see a woman eating what the officer says is a small animal(cat).it's all on their chestcam with appropriate bits blurred out for you tube. While you can fake this sort of footage there didn't appear to be any sign of that. Sad for the migrants, citizens & society in general. 😔

In the kingdom of Lesotho there are no birds as the residents have eaten them all.
In the Philippines there is one month per year they catch and eat the dogs and cats.
It wouldn't put it past homeless to eat anything they can find especially if they are butches. The story is probably not true but is it plausable for homeless butches?

Unless of course you agree with the idea of slaves paying their master

Also the authority you bring on about Haitian cuisine is not relevant to Haitians who are refugees from a terrible situation where their gangs are eating people .., eating pets is not something that Trump was claiming was inherent to Haitians but to desperate migrants

Ryan, great coverage, but something needs to be said: your guest, Dr. Ali Sim, suggested Trump may have been ‘misinformed.’ This is exactly the kind of volunteered excuses for this behavior that needs to stop. This rhetoric isn’t accidental; it’s calculated to stir fear and division. Every time we soften or excuse it, we allow dangerous narratives to spread unchecked. Let’s call these tactics what they are—deliberate political attacks.

Haiti has a religion Haitian Vodou. This religion demands animal sacrifice. So yes it might be true Haitian migrants aren't eating pets or ducks, but that doesn't mean they aren't killing them for animal sacrifice. People in Springfield assume the missing pets are being eaten

I find the skepticism to these reports odd since we just has a Haitians warlord in the mainstream media named BBQ who literally eats people.
