This song pertains to a particular time in the 1970s, when my then-wife and I visited Greece. We spent time on many of the islands in the Cyclades group to the south of Athens and, through the kindness of a friend we'd made, ended up living on Paros for the better part of a year. When setting out on that journey, I carried with me a scrap of paper on which was written a quote from St. Augustine, reminding travelers to remember to carry their soul with them wherever they go. The song, written many years later, is a tribute to S., and to the months we shared in the blue Aegean. It was the sweet time of our lives. This song was recorded at Svensrud, a farm in eastern Norway outside the town of Hemnes. It features Mike Beck on lead guitar, William Troiani on bass, and Laura Newbury on harmony vocals. Magne Hellesjo and Harald Vaernor were producer and engineer, respectively.

Let me tell you people something. Are you listening? Do want to know the difference between Bob Dylan and Doug Lang? There is none. Both excellent. Both unforgettable. Both unmistakable. Canada ought to be proud to have given Doug Lang to the world. I am Canadian. I am proud. World-take Doug Lang. A gift for always!

Such a very fine song. Cohen-like in the lyrical mastery. It's a painting that is hanging in my ears! How's that Duke?
