We've noticed that there might be some some confusion surrounding how some TVs have a manual setting while we say in the video that they don't. From what we've found, these cycles that can be triggered manually from the TV settings (LG - Pixel refresher / Sony - Panel refresh / Samsung - Pixel refresh) are considered to be "long" compensation cycles. While some of them include voltage shift adjustment like we discuss in this video, their main purpose is to work on the EL Degradation (at least from what we understand so far!)

One last note: LG calls the long and short cycle the same thing and the feature is related to whatever the internal processor is and what cycle it's on. The only way to tell the difference if it's long or short is the duration. One menu will say 10 minutes and the other will say 1 hour!

I wanted to know if short pixel refresh cycles are a bad idea to do regularly each day (degrading the pixels) and voila, RTINGS have the answer: It is not a bad idea but a very good one. Thank you RTINGS for your clear information and looking forward to more longterm testing info about burn-in while I keep babysitting my new OLED Monitor and trying to make it last as long as possible by also using your great information :)

Hard to justify spending big money on a TV that you have to baby and expect issues at some point down the line

the problem with your methodology is that you aren't normalizing for brightness. QD OLED is burning in faster than WOLED but it's also running brighter. Make the brightness equal and see if the result changes.

Great video, so educational. Maybe I am missing something but the big takeaway is don’t run anything with static elements and never give your television time to cycle. If you do that properly then it seems all but the worst OLEDs will be fine.

So the mention in the last section about permanent burn-in sounds worrying! I was about to order an OLED. Now I am thinking of going for MiniLED instead.
Is the permanent burn-in commentary expected sometime soon?

In the 8 month picture, were the monitors on the entire time, or on for a certain amount of hours per day then turned off to perform pixel cleaner?
If they were mostly on the whole time- I really thought the burnin would be waaay worse when having permanent ui elements on screen. Makes me reconsider getting a g8 as I thought the burnin rate was much faster

Super nice work you are doing here. I am using a LG C2 since 2022.12.20. and I am very happy. I use it as a PC monitor so far and I have a lot of static images because the majority I dont even game on it so its more desktop and some videos like YT but not in full frame.

What a poor excuse from Sony about the click sound. All Non-Android TVs (so the old ones) were clicking after about 10-minutes of off time because it was going from standby mode to off mode. If you turn the TV on within these 10 minutes, it’ll turn on much faster than after the 10 minutes. The click sound is the internal relay the TVs have, so they were already clicking. If they were to run this 10 minutes screen refresher as soon as you turn the TV off, it’ll at least have some continuity with the old ones (old clicking due to sleep, new clicking due to refresher).

Some people are used to turn off power strips after shutting down their PC. Those displays should defend themselves against that habit with sufficient warnings. Hiding behind cowardly named menu options (calibration? optimization? smh) won't get the point across.
