Hey I got a question do I need a visa to go to Spain
ОтветитьI doubt there are many Art Nouveau buildings in the old town of Riga. Namely they are in the adjancent "New Town". Old towns in Europe are most times of medieval origin and older. Art Nouveau came in fashion around 1900, the time of many city expansions called 'New Town'.

ОтветитьYou forgot something. Lithuania has politics who try to make this a police country, they say people are dying in roads because of speeding, but they don't see that our roads are fucked up and dangerous to drive, they try to catch EU in taxes and laws, but they are falling behind in salaries and GDP, many many young, strong, smart men and women are working in other countries, when they could be working HERE and increase the economy. We only have hobos and drunks now. I also left, after I finished studies. Now I am in Netherlands 8 months. I would like to come back, but here you have no opportunities, if you make business in Lithuania will get eaten by bigger fish or government, that's just how it is. In city councils you see only cousins, uncles and etc. because they have schemes of stealing EU money, everyone is bribing everyone, so that's why no one talks about it. If you said this on TV what I said here, next day u can be in jail or better, dead from "accident" "drug overdose" "suicide"
ОтветитьHi, I lived in Lithuania for 16 years and my first visit was in 1991. Also lived in in Narva, Estonia for 3 years. Came back to Sweden 2,5 years ago. You have been living in the Baltics what do you feel is the major difference in the way of life between Scandinavia and the Baltics?

ОтветитьSettling up an investment that would benefit you is something one would be aiming towards. I wasn’t really a fan of online business because I have actually been doubting this all my life because I have been taken before by several scammers. But after my encounter with AUSTIN my prospective of online trade changes and I I’m now a millionaire from bitcoin.
ОтветитьLovely! Looking forward to that Tallin-Helsinki ferry! Greetings from Montenegro!
ОтветитьWhy everyone is so surprised about the Wi-Fi on the bus? Isn't Internet supposed to be an omnipresent and habitual thing?
I go crazy if I loose connection, even if I am in the middle of the forest. Latvian trees suppose to connect to internet anyway!

ОтветитьWolter you're awesome, I love your videos!
ОтветитьThank you.
The connection between Baltic and Mediterranean is everlasting for anyone whose ever played Monopoly. The fun part is showing people a globe and ask them them to pin the tail on the proverbial donkey. I m in America, lamenting that we don't enjoy such a lavish environment.
Some homework you could do> there is an existential difference between the higher and lower town. It is not about fanciness. They were at some point owned by different rulers and different law codes applied. Lower town was a merchant town, and Lybeck law applied (and that is very important, also from the point of view of the history of democracy). Toompea, higher hill had their own laws, Lybeck law did not apply. They were two different towns, and most of th etime did not get along and there is even a wall between them. Did you notice it_
Yes, not much is going on on Toompea and I like it that way. I specifically wait, if I want to go and walk there, till it gets late and dark and all the tourists and screaming Russian teenagers are also gone, and it is peaceful and quiet. Then you can feel the real soul of the city. Just the oldest place, definitely the oldest stone buildings and the ghosts and the silence. Try it, it is worth it. Gives you a real feeling of the place.
There was a play staged some years ago in one of those aristocrat"s mansions up there. It was an inner monologue of an imaginary Danish king who is sitting on Toompea hill on the Eve of the first battle between Danes and Estonians. There is nothing here yet and he is just talking about what it feels like on the Eve of the battle where there is no city yet. And all the time you can see from the window all these churches and buildings that he is talking about as not existing yet. And quiet mediaeval music on the background. This is the most beautiful play ever set up here, in my opinion.
Also, if you look at photographs or paintings or films of everything that has burnt down to the ground. Basically the entire Old town has burnt to the ground at least once every century, the last time being 1943, My granny was in Tallinn during the bombing, she was 7. It was all in ruins. And yet again everything was built up again as if nothing ever happened. And we always rebuilt everything without changing the building but as it originally was. Unlike what they did in Riga.
Another suggestion I want to make is to go walking in the dark. You will see many things you need darkness to see. For example the sculptures of the haunted monks in Danish King garden> they have no faces but hose nonfaces are lit in the dark. Things like that. And the walls are lit so that the light shows various levels of building. It is completely safe here, do not be scared to walk after dark. And follow your own soul, not the other tourists. It is crazy how the tourists all follow each other as if a herd of animals following the alphas. That way all you will see are the tourist traps
I am also saying that there is not just Lux Express going between the capitals. It seems that people only know about Lux Express and then they are always completely packed. And they ARE the best by far as a bus, the fact that they are so packed ruins the experience. But there is also Ecolines. Either a Russian or a Latvian company, and it shows in the service attitude, but how cares really. Ecoline buses have much more room, they are designed that way. Two floors. And pretty empty, usually you just get half the bus all to yourself. They also have the multimedia screens and hot drinks machine, like Lux Express. I am not promoting Ecolines, I have no ties to them. But just saying that there are more options that these packed Lux Express buses. On the other hand, Lux Express is an Estonian company, also driving between Estonian cities. And I would love to give my money to an Estonian company, rather than Latvian or Russian, but I like space and privacy.
Thre is also Flixbus, but I do not recommend them. No amenities what soever. Toilet usually not working. They are very often very late because the buses break down all the time. Yet they can be ridiculously expensive. While Lux Express and Ecolines are between 5/25, depending on various things *Lux is more expensive". But Flixbus has lately been 45, 68 and even 85. This is ridiculous, do not pay this kind of money for a 4 hour bus ride with no amenities and very high likelihood of being 2 hours late.
Maybe I should not have revealed my Ecolines secret because I like having half the bus to myself ..lol. But I want visitors who come to my country to have a good experience.
Lux Express is always on time, to the second, seriously. Ecolines can be plus/minus 10/15 minutes. Flixbus just does whatever. And rude drivers. And passengers tend to be big groups of young people. So it will not be all that quiet. In case you plan to sleep or sth
If you want to do a good deed to Estonia, choose Lux Express. If you want some privacy in an ok bus, not as fancy as Lux Express, take Ecolines. Both are ok. Ecolines is usually quite cheap if you buyt the ticket a bit earlier, even a day earlier. Usually in summer their price if you buy one day in advance is 10 euros and in winter 5/7. Just think about that when you are about to pay 65 for Flixbus
Another thing I love about Tallinn as opposed to Riga is that it is quiet. People do not spend their times screaming like idiots. Tallinn is a perfect introvert place.
Oh, beware of Riga Taxi maffia. They will rip you off. Not so in Vilnius, In Tallinn not so much cab maffia.
Meh. Tallinn might as well be a separate country at this point, because of how people say 'Estonia' and never step foot out of the capital. So I appreciate you saying that there's more to the Baltics than their capitals. You haven't lived when you haven't dragged your drunk ass across Toomemägi in Tartu at night and walked into and shared smoke or conversation with other miserable bastards just as drunk and lively and fun as you.
