PIP tar I believe you and the Rabbi are saying the same thing, just in a different way. He is saying think for ourselves and study ourselves, especially the older sources mainly from Mishnah at least that is what I get from most of his talks. The only authority given were to the “Men of the Great Assembly” or Sanhedrin. The Rabbis today have absolutely no authority to make halachah and that’s not to disparage the Rabbis of today either. Their views are “commentary” just like the men in Gemara and ours also. Study Mishnah and see what the leaders who had authority actually said and their rulings it’s very interesting. You are seeing more of this kind of thinking in the people today and it’s refreshing to see it. If it’s not restricted then don’t say it is is my view. I could have totally misread your comment and if so it wasn’t on purpose, but this Rabbi is pushing people to think for themselves and not just parrot what they hear.

I always find Ha Rav to be most interesting.
I think this shier stops too short of the necessary discussion.
- why were the more restrictive approaches enacted?
- why the emphasis on 6 hours versus 2 or 3 hours like german and dutch jewry?
- When all is said and done, what is the Rav's conclusion for what the practice should be for today?

Why not at first read the pure meaning (pshat) of the wording: „dont cook /eat a goat as long as it is still sucking milk, aka is dependent, on the milk of the mother ? Obviously, the halacha drifted from this pshat.
