They check you out and back into a new reservation on long term stays after 28 days because once it’s 30 days they are residents.

Here in CA living with roommates and finding a studio has become blurred most times same damn price. Then if you find your own place you have to compete for the place. If hotels weren't more expensive then renting I'd live in a hotel monthly rather then have to have the nightmare of finding a place in this economy. When I moved to ca rents for a studio in a shady place was 900 those same units 1500.

I really feel bad for those who are seeking a place to live and were not home owners before the pandemic. Our crappy economy hasn't been fair to them. In 2016, I bought a three bedroom ranch home in a decent suburban area for $115K. My total monthly house payment is $1,006 per month, but if I moved back into the one bedroom apartment I previously came from where I was paying $800 per month in 2016, I would now be paying $1,400 per month. So for $400 less per month I can have an entire house with more space, a garage, and a front and back yard in the same type of neighborhood.

The same people living there have a brand new phone, new clothes, the trendy stuff and more. THE MINORITY of them are truly poor not by choice. That’s been proven to be fact.

Look at the overconsumption, the social media ads, people’s increase on buying…all of a sudden we also have people that can’t afford things. 80% of people have car payments. Please wake up. Please

I had to live in an extended stay hotel once. It wasn't fun. We had paid to move into an apartment, but it had current tenants in their last month. They told the complex they would be out on the last day of the month. HOWEVER, they were not. They just decided to stay and not pay rent for their last month because they felt their deposit should cover it. It took almost 30 days to get them out and the complex had no other units. We got a free month from the complex to make up for it, but the extended stay cost was more than the rent. And we'd moved across the country so we had no other options. I'll never move like that again. I'll rent a BNB for a month or something and then apartment hunt instead of paying a deposit and the first month's rent in advance by a couple months in preparation. It was like I was punished for trying to do the right thing.

We bought our house in 2011 Indianapolis our mortgage is only $800 a month for two story three bedroom three bath suburban area beautiful neighborhood huge backyard. We were thinking about moving because we wanted to raise chickens and get a basement but if we sold our house and even put 100 K down, we still will be paying over 2K a month For just having a basement , pass

The issue is rental companies require income, bank statements, and the deposit. Hotels are day to day, week to week, month to month. Hotels do not ask for anything other than for you to pay your daily rate or weekly rate. Apartments are expensive, you have to pay background checks for all adults, hand over bank statements, credit check. Apartment management companies take note, in this economy if you offer easier short term rentals your places would fill up.

Idk about other states but in California (and the hotel I work at). If you stay 30 uninterrupted night, you go tax free. Granted you do have to authorize full price plus tax at check in but we do either refund the taxes or put them towards “free night”

I’ve seen two seniors living in hotel…taking advantage of the many amenities…not Families!!! Nice hotels. A couple seniors might take advantage of the breakfast…extended stay properties.. then because you stay longer you earn points. For seniors it might make sense.

I can say I stayed in an extended stay for 9 months. I had an apt lined up with a move in date. Moved out my apartment to move in to the new one. Got there and they said that I couldn’t get the original apt I rented because they were upgrading it and I would have to take a different one and have to pay more and move from a first floor I originally rented to a third. I said no. Got a clean place in walking difference from my job. Only planned to stay for a short time but I decided to switch careers so I stayed until I found a new job in a different state. It was 950 a month and I had a studio apartment type room. After 6 months they no longer charged taxes as well. My rent for my apartment was going to be 1150 without utilities.

The worst thing about majority of motels, is pests. German roaches, water bugs, ants, bed bugs. You can have all or just one of those problems. The owners and managers of motels are very reluctant to do anything about it. Some of them just act like you are crazy, or lying, or you brought pests there yourself. I once wanted to stay in a motel in a nice area. The reviews were good, so I booked it for a week. Prepaid and everything. I got there and asked if I could see the room before I agreed to take it. They said they don’t allow that. (bad sign) So, I get my key, walk in, and immediately see a roach. Back to the front desk I go. Then they insist that I have to take that room because no other rooms are available and they do not do refunds. And after arguing back and fourth with them, and getting nowhere, I came up with a different tactic. These folks always had me step outside their front desk office to check in guests who were arriving because I was “inconveniencing” others by asking that they refund my money. And as I was standing outside, a couple walked up and they were talking amongst each other, “I hope this place doesn’t have roaches” and I immediately intervened with my comment “they do. That’s why I can’t accept my room because I saw at least one roach in there.” And even though I was standing outside, the hotel receptionist heard me through the window, and immediately called me over to say, “ok. We’ll call our boss to see if we can give you a refund.” And then, I also got on the phone with someone and was loudly telling them how I upset I am that I have found a roach in my room because it was some holiday and all the other places were either booked already or cost three times more.” Other arriving guests could hear me, which was a plus. I, standing out there, was quickly becoming a liability for that roach-infested place. No one wants that kind of advertisement. So, the front desk people, called me over again and begrudgingly issued me a full refund. Still an inconvenience because it was hard to find another hotel to stay at due to the holiday and the crazy rates. But at least I wasn’t forced to cohabitate with pests.

hell i pay about 250 in electric when we have to turn the ac on and the house rent is 1100 without fees dont get me started on internet and slum lord issues geting things fixed at least with a hotel you can move rooms and you get internet, water, tv, electric, trash and even a maid service and tolities if you need and no huge deposit and hotels are often in areas that actually have public transport. so even at 2k a month it could still be a deal!

I come from a big European-Asian country and in a big city an average salary is around 1000$. We are a family of three. We pay 350$ for a mortgage (27 years more to pay), which is pretty cheap compared to average rate around 500-700$ monthly payment, other 350$ for food, 100% commodities. Medical insurance is “free”, as well as nursing and schooling for kids. But this is all paid out of our taxes that are in total around 43%! Plus extra taxes are included into gasoline prices, alcohol, cigarettes and some more. That’s why when people in my country say that medicine is free and schooling is free so like don’t complain, I am laughing out loud. Because even with this system we live from paycheque to paycheque. And I feel really sorry and hurt for parents all over the world 🌍 who have to overcome so much from day to day in order to fulfil basic human needs in their hard way to bring up their kids.

The extended stay owners just want rent. They can probably save because they don’t have daily cleaning services. Guests use laundromats. And like they said…school systems now send buses to hotels to pick up students.
