And the icon argument isn't really fair. Old mks didn't have an animated model that appeared above. They show plenty of personality.

Kombat Kids(Because they have an interesting arc(They're like legacies) and they've just started. Plus, I like playing as Cassie and Takeda).
Scorpion(It ain't an MK game without Scorpion.)
Sub-Zero(Similar to Scorpion.)
Raiden(He's the Obi-Wan Kenobi of MK. The mentor that aids the main character(s ). )
Reptile(A klassic character. Wasted in MKX)
Ermac(Just like Reptile)
Rain(Out of all the UMK3 ninjas, he has the worst luck in the rebooted timeline. I really like his MK9 design)
Smoke(One of my favorite characters in Deception, alongside Noob)
Noob Saibot(One of my favourite characters in Deception alongside Smoke)
Liu Kang(Almost every fighting game has their own Asian Martial Artist. Plus, I've always seen him as the main character of Mortal Kombat)
Kung Lao(Klassic)
Kitana(I'm not really a fan[no pun intended] of her, but I'll plinclude her because she's a klassic character and is the love interest to Liu Kang)
Mileena(IMO, she has one of the greatest character arc/story. Even better than some comic book characters)
Jade(Not sure about her, because she's an annoying character. Being able to pass through attacks, her staff attacks. She has them all in MK11. But, she is a klassic character)
Johnny Cage(He's my main for MKX)
Erron Black(Also, another character I main as, after JC)
Jax(Klassic)
Sonya(Klassic)
Kano(Klassic)
Sektor(He was my main in UMK3)
Cyrax(Not really a fan, but you can't have ketchup without mustard)
Kenshi(Loved playing as him in MKX. I want more of him in the story)
Kabal(Another fun character from UMK3)
Kronika(She's the boss. The boss needs to be in the game)

Based on rumors and official tweets and posts, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kitana, Raiden, Kabal, and Jade are confirmed. Kronika is not playable.

You notice that I've left some Klassic Characters like Nightwolf and Sindel. I'm not really interested in them. Quan Chi creeps me out. And Stryker..... Ugh, he's the Black Widow of Mortal Kombat. He's so bland. He's just a cop with cop weapons. Kano, Jax, Sonya, and Johnny Cage have specialtiea(Kanoball and Laser eyes, robot arms, pink dust and lasers, shadow moves) but what about Stryker? He even dresses like a Swat officer.

You have some great ideas on the roster. I actually think that there is a lot of internal politics within NetherRealm when they’re deciding who to include. I think they pick the roster based on who are the most used characters and who the team is most enthusiastic about including. I think they have animators assigned to designing and animating the characters, so it’s actually not a bad way of deciding who the include, even if it means the characters that I find most interesting tend to get forgotten. Is it just me, or are the earth realm characters a bit boring? I’d love to see a roster of just outworld/NetherRealm characters

Nice and logical thoughts, Brusk. I'll add my personal perfect roster. MKX had 24 characters from the start, Goro was 25th as dlc. From the looks of it, MK11's roster counts the same number of characters with Shao Kahn being a 25th entry. Now we all know that some of the characters who won't be playable, will be shown in story mode nevertheless like it was in MKX.

11 characters are already confirmed:
01) Baraka. Really glad and excited for his return;
02) Geras. Looks fine at first. However i must add that i hope that NRS will introduce less new characters this time around. Because bad new characters are occupying slots for more popular characters obviously;
03) Raiden. Even though he was almost in all games, i can't say that i grow tired of him. I was kinda sick when he was the main hero for two games in a row (vs dc and 9), but MKX did it right with him and even more. Dark Raiden is a good twist for his mentor personality;
04) Scorpion. An obvious pick. Sick of him on a posters but that's just about it;
05) Skarlet. I never was a fan of her personally, but i saw that people demanded her return, and i'm glad that they get their wish;
06) Sonya. Another obvious pick that i don't mind yet;
07) Sub-Zero. Yet another obvious choice, that i agree with;
08) Kabal. Shares my emotions with Baraka's reveal;
09) Kano. No, just no. Enough. I really really love his character, but as Brusk mentioned in this video, some of the old characters needs a break. And Kano is one of them. There were a rumors that this game is going to feature Kano's son and personally i was agree with that. He would replace his father as one of the new characters. He may yet to be revealed at some point but if he does then Kano would waste a slot;
10) D'Vorah. She had a nice gameplay features, but i'd rather have her as a story mode character only. Baraka should get his revenge;
11) Jade. She was in my top 3 most wanted characters so...)).

There are also a bunch of characters that will obviously return such as:
12) Cassie Cage. She and Takeda were my favorite Kombat Kids so i don't mind;
13) Johnny Cage. Just like with Sonya, i'm not tired of him just yet;
14) Kitana. One of my favorite females in MK;
15) Kung Lao. Another old character that i'll always be ok with;
16) Liu Kang. The same as Lao;

Now the next 8 slots will feature my personal list, I'll not acknowledge any leaks.
17) Sareena. She deserves a fighting chance because she has a potential both in gameplay and story;
18) Smoke. Many fans wants his return and so do i;
19) Kano's son as a new character;
20) Takeda. The best Kombat Kid in my opinion deserves a comeback;
21) Frost. Yet another highly demanded character;
22) Rain. Unjustly added only as dlc in mk9 and overlooked in mkx, the edenian prince must get a proper treatment this time;
23) Fujin. For obvious reasons;
24) Bi-Han. My favorite character ever since MK Mythologies Sub-Zero. He has a tons of potential. I was furious when he was totally left out in mkx.

No need for many guest characters. 2 maximum, Spawn as one of them.

As first dlc characters i'd add:
26) Mileena. Even though she's dead in a story, she has an army of fans;
27) Shang Tsung. I'll be glad if he'll make it to the main roster too;
28) Ermac. Another fan favorite;
29) Havik. One of my favorite characters from 3d era.

As second wave dlc characters:
30) Sindel;
31) Nightwolf;
32) Tremor, the same as Shang Tsung, if he can make it to the main roster, i'll be ok;
33) Triborg.

As much as i respect characters like Kenshi and Jax (Jax in my top 5 favorites), i think they must take a break and/or appear only in story mode. I'dd also add Reptile and Khameleon, but i know that unfortunately NRS will not be able to please everyone.

My favorite mk person is ermac

I feel Kano needs to get killed off. He adds nothing to the story, he’s literally just cannon fodder. Sonya also defeated him in the previous game. So the little merit he had for being there is now gone. His gameplay is kinda trash too. I mean... he rolls into a ball and flies across the screen. Super lame.

Maybe have custom potriats. Catch something in the photo mode add a background and there you go.

If the characters had power (like in MK2) they should put it like that ermac should have souls and if they add smoke put smoke behind him

Yeah we don’t have dlc yet but the only 3D era character we have is frost most of the roster are simply characters from mk 1 2 and x 😔 too bad i was really hoping they would have more diverse characters

That was great I agree 1 question that bugs me (might just be me ) but how do they decide what characters neatherrealm pick to be on the roster do they pick a story first then pick the characters after or is it characters first then a story around the characters it's actually a general question for each game like street fighter, tekken, mortal kombat etc

Mk 12 needs to have almost every character from the first 3 games including some favorites from the 3D era

I think what u said about the background and different poses is something I think MK11 got halfway right Bc looking at the roster they have don’t have the emotion less some look angry some are smiling and some look like they are in different poses however in a way some of it does look it little boring but in a way MK11 does what u said halfway right

Ninja Reptile, Cyber/Ninja Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, Motaro, Kintaro, and maybe even Chameleon are essential to a perfect MK roster. Hopefully MK12 has all of them playable.

if MK3 suffered greatly because scorpion wasnt included in the roster. (other characters as well, but lets be honest that wasnt what upset people back in the day)
why should other characters (sonya, jax, ect) need to take a break?
