Sony 12-24mm F2.8 G Master Lens Review

Nice review! I just bought the 12-24 GM, and love the lens, I own the 16-35 F4 Zeiss too, but the 4 mm difference really opens up new photographic opportunities. I did a test shooting the 12-24 at 24 and compared it to my 24 F1.4 GM, at the pixel peeping level and found them to be 98% identical, the only very slight difference (and only after you looked closely) was the 24 prime was a bit sharper, but that was when you blew up to over 190%, beyond that, the pictures were identical - which for me, really blew me away, and made me wonder whether I really needed my 24 prime anymore. Yes, the lens is heavier, but I also own the 24-105 G, so now only carry the 12-24 and 24-105 (and maybe the 70-350 G APSC lens), and that is it. I will say I had to make sacrifices in order to purchase the 12-24 GM, I traded in my G9, along with two of the leica/lumix lenses - 12-60 and 100-400 zoom along with a Fuji X100F (which I am regretting emotionally, but also realize I rarely used it), so the cost for the 12-24 was very cost effective.

I had the Canon 11-24L f4 loved the IQ but the weight was just too much. I went to the Sony 12-24G f4 loved the weight but the IQ was ok to me good but not what i wanted. Now I have the 12-24GM and i'm happy it's like in the middle not too big but the IQ is very good. i'm going to keep it because it's the lens i feel fit me best. Just me Nice review
