This song is so beautiful. I speak over a decade from first hearing it. Everything from the bugle call to the melodies that form the structure of the song itself. It is a very interesting and intelligent construct. God bless you Polly Jean.

Best album of the 21st century so far

What an incredible song. Both the songwriting and the production, just so special, I've never heard anything like it. And then you layer that text on top of it, maybe the most acidic irony I've ever heard in music. I'm not English but i almost feel pain and sadness for English people who listen to it for how piercing and dark it must feel for them, and unfortunately it applies to many other countries just or almost as much.

Towards the end of this song, I reckon PJH is referring to the horrors of Fallujah and its ongoing aftermath during the US-Centralised Power Alliance’s criminal invasion and occupation of Iraq. Along with White Phosphorous, ecosystemically cataclysmal Depleted Uranium munitions were deployed there. Prior to that, they were used by NATO in post-Tito Yugoslavia. And they’re also now in fertile Ukraine - thanks to the ever-blood-soaked, Russophobic ruling class of..

Majestic. One of the most incredibly uplifting and beautifully written and ethereal sounding albums, all the more remarkable for much of the material deals with trauma and loss... I was there at the first ULU, London gig, who knew the body of future work would transform PJ into one of England's most important and treasured artists and songwriters.
