I get what hes saying about it being scarier because its so loud. There's been times where I've taken friends to or dates to one of the indoor ranges near me, and they're pretty calm and cool, and then they get in, hear how loud it is, and sort of freak out. I normally start people on a. 22 pistol, but theres been times that i didnt have it, and the first gun they fire is a glock 19 or something, and they fire it once, and the recoil and sound is just overwhelming to them.
Then they fire a magazine or two, at some point they realise, "oh wow. The recoil is nowhere near as bad as the first shot made it seem."
Thats why i always try to go to outdoor ranges(and virtually never go to indoor rifle/long gun ranges.) And even then i still double up my ear pro, using plugs and muffs.
