So you think corruption is ok as long as it happens at a state level rather than a federal level? It's ok to have a tyrannical government as long as it's the governor of your state running it instead of the POTUS? The only reason you have such an issue with our healthcare system is because Obama signed it into law. It's been proven to work in MA and Republicans pushed for the mandate, yet you hate it ONLY because the guy who signed it into law isn't in your party and isn't your governor.

And what the hell's wrong with that? You should only fear the Tenth Amendment if you know your ideas don't work as well, and don't want a side by side comparison of systems. Why is Nancy Pelosi able to come up with a better health care system than all the minds dispersed between the different states, experimenting with different systems, being the laboratories of democracy?

It only prevents authoritarianism on a large scale. If the federal government suddenly disappearing and all of their power was given to every state government, and every state acted as if it was it's own country, then all the problems that exist now would exist in various states as well. There would be things like NHS and EPA and TSA on a state level. The only thing that might be different is you could move to a state that suits you, but only if your current state lets you leave.

It's that dispersion of authority prevents authoritarianism. The left has never conceived of any limits to the federal government whatsoever, with marijuana the only issue they go hardcore Tenth Amendment on. You want the EPA telling me how many miles per gallon my car should have, which makes them less safe as they have to build them with lighter and lighter materials. You want the TSA raping my children in the airport. You want the NHS in charge of my health care.

Yea, those damn progressives are always trying to regulate people's lives. That's why they're against gay marriage, censor nudity in media, try to censor anything that speaks badly about Christianity, force rape victims to give birth to their rapist's children, want to put MANDATORY Christian prayer back in public schools, and tell everyone what types of sex are right and wrong. If progressives were more like conservatives, they wouldn't have a problem with watching 2 guys make out in public!

Why do you think local and state governments are any less corrupt than the federal government? If anything they have more room for corruption, since very few people care about local politics, because they aren't sensationalized like national politics. Voter turnouts for local elections are extremely low everywhere. What makes you think your local government would remain nice and clean if they suddenly gained all the power that the federal government has? They're just people too.

Is that why conservatives support wars and the death penalty? They protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness by bombing and executing people?

Why can't you leftists tell state and local government apart? Is it that the things government does that we actually like happen at the state and local level, and you don't want us to be able to discern?

@richahlgrim123 Fascists have far more in common with many far-right political organizations than they do with leftist groups. Some economic principles may overlap, but the idea of a paternalistic society founded on militarism, male virility, and tradition are all conspicuously conservative. You're ignoring the social opinions of both groups in favor of their economic principles, and that is editorializing the entire discussion.

The list of violations from the US is long, however, being the worlds only super power have its perks. The war on Iraq made bush/blair war criminals, nothing happend. The settlements in gaza are illegal, yet nothing happens. Just because you havent heard about it doesnt mean it didnt happen.

@TheSaltyAdmiral By definition Human Rights are fundamental rights and freedoms entitled to regardless of nationality, sex, ethnicity or any other status...However Healthcare does not transcent National barriers, it must be paid for by the citizenry of the country in question, in other words its a privlege.

@oneforliberty I find that I learn alot by discussing politics with people of another opinion than mine, people like you for example. I think its a mistake to judge me by my nationality instead of my words. I think I know more about american politics than the average american does. And especially since there is intense anti-europe propaganda in the US, maybe the views of a real european would be of some interest?:) peace salty

@oneforliberty 2/2 None of the human rights exicted in the garden of eden(if you belive in that story). Yet most agree that the human right list is very important progress in our development as a species. And one by one they are added as we "wise up" over time. C&T is way to complicated to explain here. But the core problem is that business never does "the right thing" unless that also happens to be the most economic thing. So, they just need a foot in their ass :)

How are they suppose to "control your lives"? It does not happen in any other nation that has it. I know because I live in Norway, with single payer. All though Bill O. and Glenn wants you to belive otherwise, health care IS a human right. You are soon the only western country that don't acknovledge that.

@TheSaltyAdmiral First of all, the cost that I was speeking of was the cost of big government control of our lives.The cost of unwanted policies.Like health care, and Cap & trade... As far as dropping our funding to the military, I have no problem with that as long as we can still be as strong as before. The US has been the leader of the free world.That also has a cost.I don't think we should compare ourselves to a communist country like China or Russia.

@oneforliberty Cost? The US spends more on its military each year than all other nations COMBINED. Yes thats right. If you truly worry about cost, that is where you should aim it. You could drop your military funding down to lets say china or russias level and still be safe, and with the saved money from that you could afford any welfare programs you want. Canada, Japan, Australia, France, Engalnd, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Island, Germany ect all can afford it. Why can't you?

He started the Iraq War and tried to privatize social security (which progressives created). Obama a progressive?! He's a corporatist, neoliberal.

Do your homework. Progressives are not about saving anybody from anything. They are about making sure that no person is more successful than the next, irregardless of how much that person has worked to get where he/she is at. The actual definition is a group of people that believe that people cannot make decisions on their own and that government knows best. It's about taking away your basic freedoms for the common good. True progressives believe that government is god.

Yes founding fathers were liberal but in the classical interpretation of that term (limited government, small taxes, private property). Modern American liberals are more like sociailists and radicals while conservatives (in theory at least) are like classical liberals.

I'm a conservative and I believe this is no time for a witch hunt. America needs real solutions- not blame. Government can't protect its people without the help of a free market to develop safer products; a reactionary government working by itself can sometimes make the situation worse... *Cough!* INCOME TAX! *Cough!*
