Just curious, why not just make a regular rectangular block and then just bandsaw the rough shape and do your finish passes with your spoke shaves? seems like you could make a reusable plank maker for other handle projects?

How much energy was used melting the plastic?

It's a great result! It would have been better if you were making a handle for an axe head that actually needed a new handle, instead of destroying a perfectly good handle in order to show us the craft. After all, a tree was destroyed to make it in the first place... I bet if you asked around, you'd have found a broken axe.

That's neat as heck. I never would have thought that it would be safe to melt down plastic like that without some kind of breathing apparatus or that plastic like that would have the strength necessary to stand up as a hatchet handle.
