That is NOT how you open a coconut.

1. Place a container underneath to collect the water.


2. Look at the bottom side (one without the eyes) and find the largest of the three parts.

3. Hold the coconut with the largest part facing up.

4. Take a heavy knife and hit hard on the largest part. Not on the ridge.

5. Coconut will crack.


6. Turn the coconut so that the crack is horizontal.

7. Put the knife blade into the crack and pry it open.

i knew it i knew it that when i first time open a coconut the screw driver and a hammer is the first tools to open it

As entertaining as it is to watch totally clueless people fail at opening a coconut, I much more enjoyed the second group of people who knew what they were doing.

As an Indian who's been doing this since the age of 8-10, my heart aches seeing them abuse the poor coconuts.
