I'd have to say Black Sabbath/Deep Purple are the OG's of metal(heavy metal).. actually I read that it's called "heavy metal" because of Toni Iommi playing with metal thimbles on his fingers... could be wrong, don't crucify me please 🤣... I like your guy's stuff tho.

5 things I hate about metal:

1. screamo (whoever thought of screaming at people, as a form of music, obviously didn't get his or her ass kicked as a child)
2. power metal (every song makes me feel like I'm riding a horse....into battle)
3. growling (it's not singing dude...no matter how you cut that cake)
4. makeup (wtf?!?...back in the 70s and 80s, I was a huge fan of Kiss and Twisted Sister, but you couldn't pay me to dress up like that...seriously their music would have been a hit without the circus show)
5. symphonic metal (opera and metal?...this shit should have been strangled as a baby)

I'd like to see you guys react to two bands in which I love...
Linkin Park and Slipknot

I'v been a die hard Linkin Park fan since I could remember. The music is great and the screams are legit on both bands so it would be a great journey to watch your reaction to these two bands🤘

Screamo is not a music genre or music sub genre. It’s a vocal style.

It’s obvious why people do the devil horn hands sign. It’s because Ronnie James Dio started doing it. When he was a member of a band called Black Sabbath.

Alex has covered a lot of bands so far but his fans tend to steer him away from metalcore for the most part. I feel like it’s elitist people in the community doing it too. Cause I see all of these reaction channels and hardly any do metalcore bands and if they do it’s only like one or two songs even though the reactor really liked the style. I’ll use Alex as an example of this because I know that he’s said multiple times that he enjoys the mix of screaming and clean vocals. That’s essentially what metalcore is and he’s only reacted to maybe 2-3 metalcore bands because his patrons always steer him to one end of the spectrum or the complete opposite end with no middle ground....

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what "screamo" is and where it came from. "Screamo" as a derogatory term is mostly used by people OUTSIDE the metal community to refer to any band with any kind of harsh vocals. This is offensive for two reasons. One, there are different types of harsh vocals, you can't just lump them all together. And most importantly, "screamo" itself IS A GENRE, but it has very little to do with metal. It is a punk subgenre that developed out of the emo and post-hardcore scenes in the 90s. It's called "screamo" because it's emo with screams. Orchid, Pg 99, Portraits of Past, etc are the OG screamo bands. The 2000s brought a newer wave of more pop influenced screamo bands that are probably familiar to most people: Thursday, The Used, Senses Fail, Thrice, Silverstein, etc. There's literally a wikipedia article for this.

Also, most metalcore is more influenced by screamo and post-hardcore, than by metal. Where do ya'll think the "-core" comes from?

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Green Day is more an alternative rock band. Some people call it punk and I can see the punk in it but it's just so new age that I can't even really see the punk in it at the same time. It's just alt rock. They are certainly not metal though. Not to slam Green Day. I do like them and I own some of their albums but they are not Punk or Metal to me at all. The elitist haters don't deserve an opinion. Metal is great. Period. .. Tool sucks though. I don't like Maynard's voice. :D

I don't get the whole not knowing the band members or the words or the song names or things like that. I know the members, the words, the song names, I know which track number that song is on the album most of the time too. I just love to watch interviews and hear what they all have to say. Their stories are exciting a lot of the time.

I have been listening to metal since like 3 years, I have been a member of heavy metal, nu metal and electro metal communities on FB, but honestly, I barely know anything about the community, like I just don't care much I guess. I am in for the music and to support whenever I can, but all the extremist and elitist stuff I can't digest.

I love Alex. He's one of the few music reaction channels I watch. He's on-point as well, especially with metal gatekeeperism being a huge problem within the community. I remember a couple years ago I left a positive comment on the Amon Amarth "Raise Your Horns" video, and some douche left about six replies on my comment explaining why Amon Amarth isn't "real" Viking/Norse metal, and how since Johan wasn't their first vocalist, I shouldn't like the band, and blah, blah, something about hockey, blah, blah. Like really? Who gives a shit? Just like what you like, and skip what you don't. Taste is subjective. Leave it at that.

Heavy is a subjective term. You can be emotionally heavy, sonically heavy, have a production that’s super heavy and it all is heavy!!

As someone that has listened to rock/metal my entire life, I can tell that I don't like every old school or every new band. But I do have absolute respect for every one of them because music speaks to people. It can help you cope, it can inspire you, it can can help you with pent up emotions, and so much more. So in my opinion, you don't have to like everything, but you really should respect them because without classical composers, soul, jazz, and many others, we wouldn't have the music that we do love. And even with the newer bands, they could inspire people to start a band in the future that you could love.

As a long time Metalhead, been listening to hard rock/heavy metal, for 40 years I can relate and understand what Alex is saying. Metal music has a LONG history (50 years) and their have been literally thousands of bands that have come and gone. It is almost impossible to have heard every band that has existed and their have ben bands that I didn't listen to in the past that I listen to now. I don't like everything Metal but I do like a lot. I have an 1100 album collection (small by many standards, don't give a fuk) with over 250 bands. That didn't happen over night. Just plow thru it and enjoy the ride. If you want any suggestions then just ask.

Also, I don't think you're scary at all. I dated a Goth for almost 5 years back in the day and was head over heels for her but she turned out to be cukoo for coco puffs so had to end it. Also love the name of the podcast and just subbed.

The literally only thong I dislike about metal is not only the screamer, but the growlers. If I have to Google what it is your saying not only for a song, but the whole album. You've lost me as a fan. I'm mean, instrumentally it sounds fricken amazing, usually. Vocally, I can't understand you one bit. And vocals convey a part if the songs experience. As an accent, its awesome. As he whole thing, I'm lost.

The funniest about this video is that I have a buddy who fits all the things that Alex and other fans of metal hate 🤣🤣 like, he hates 90% of modern metal, but only listens to Pantera, Mudvayne and Marilyn Manson. There are a couple of outliers (In This Moment, Nonpoint, Bad Omens, etc.), but he would only like a song or two from the songs he would listen to, call the rest of their discography trash and go right back to playing Mudvayne again 🤦🏻. I’ve tried to change his mind about this, but he won’t listen to me.

(Also, he absolutely LOATHES Spiritbox just because the lead singer sounds like Ariana Grande 🤦🏻. I disagree.)

I hate posting long comments on 6 month-old videos, but....

I'm coming up on my 50th birthday. I grew up on 80s glam metal--Twisted Sister was my favorite band, Def Leppard was my first concert, and that's about all I listened to. Then, in high school I got introduced to classic rock bands like The Doors, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc, and I got into them as well. Then I heard my first Metallica song, and thrash metal entered into my life. Around my senior year of high school gangsta rap became a thing, and I started listening to bands like NWA, Public Enemy, Ice T, and the like. Dated an alt girl right after high school (I guess like a proto-goth?), and she got me into bands like Depeche Mode, Cure, etc. Then I joined the Army & spent 6 months in Texas during training...well, you can't spend that long in Texas without at least building up a tolerance to country, so artists like Garth Brooks and Shania Twain found their way into my life. I also finally started delving into the classical music that my father loved, and grew to love that as well. Over the course of my lifetime, I've built up a love and appreciation toward pretty much every musical genre you can think of, many by complete accident. That should be the end result for any music lover, if I may be so bold as to state my own opinion as a truth. At any rate, if you go through life with an open mind and open ears, you'll probably end up much the same.

By the way, regarding Metallica: Trust me on this--you need to experience "Fade To Black", if not by way of a reaction video then just by giving it a listen on your own. It is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, is very accessible for people who might not tend toward the faster thrash metal which Metallica is generally known for, and the feels that go along with it will probably be right in your wheelhouse.
