I’m graduating the may as a mech engineer looking to get into sales, but I have no experience. Do you think it would be smart to start my career as a technical account manager or strategic account manager then move into a sales engineering position?

I've got my Sales Engineering interview tomorrow, and your videos have helped my nerves tremendously. Thanks for helping me manage my expectations and go into this interview with a realistic mindset!

1st SE role, over 100k in salary. Granted I had 7 years carrying a bag as an AE, but for cutting my teeth on the technical side I’ll take it.

Do you see that once commission starts out performing your base, companies withdraw the base

That's opinion based and true in certain situations not all. Even with 3 years experience. Sales Engineering skills are transferable so most people in those roles can produce a product demonstration...you don't need 10yrs experience to earn 120k base for that. What's important are soft skills. Those are severely lacking in the Tech world. We can teach you the tech stuff but we can't teach soft skills.
