Awesome video. I have had my Trangia Spirit burner for 10 years too. I use it not only for camping but international travel. Fuel is much easier to access than isobutane. I don't have the Triangle but I carry the Fire Box Nano . Best combination for me.

I also still use my Trangia burner that I bought back in 1985. Had to replace the rubber ring once. Back then, I bought the entire set with the pan and all the cooking pots. I got more minimal with time. Now I have the mini stove to go with it. It doesn't pack flat, but it's not much larger than the burner, and it is light, so the difference is minimal. Sometimes I use the Bushbox from Bushcraft Essentials with it. Better wind protection, but it is a bit on the heavy side. Nice for a mini campfire, though.

I still have most of my backpacking gear bought in the late 70s and early 80s:
Saunders Fellpine tent(2kg) - 1978
Camping Gaz stove - 1978
Karrimat sleeping pad - 1978 (3/4 length to save weight! - maybe all of 50g!)
Blacks Icelandic down sleeping bag(3 season, 1kg) - 1980
Blacks Highlander sleeping bag(winter, 2kg) - 1978
Karrimor Vallot 65-70l pack(1kg) - 1982 - still my default backpacking carry today.
Karrimor Lynx 3 pack(63L, 850g) - 1978
Sigg 1L aluminium water bottle - 1980

It has all been used at some point in the last 5 years.

I also had a SVEA 123 petrol stove and a Trangia 27K stove set (including the gas burner attachment), both bought in 1980 but I sold them during Covid.
I still have my spare Trangia burner and little X-stand but rarely(like never!) use it. But my everyday carry these days is:
Durston xmid2 tent, Oex Fathom sleeping bag, Flextail air mat, Camping Moon(Soto windmaster clone) stove, Firemaple 1L pot(integrated heat exchanger), Sea2Summit collapsible cup and plate , all packed in my faithful Vallot pack.

I love my Trangia and alcohol stoves in general. I haven't even owned a gas stove for many years. I was given a Jetboil for Christmas last year, but gave it to my gear mad nephew in law without even trying it out. I knew I would never use it. I love my Trangia 27 for car camping and cook everything on it, from fryups to pancakes as well as the usual pasta/rice etc. If I am carrying my gear on my back or on the bicycle, I use one of my homemade alcohol stoves with a very cheap [under £7] titanium windshield/potstand. I add a piece of heavy duty foil as an extra windbreak. The whole set up only weighs a couple of ounces. I also find myself still using my old stainless steel dog bowl, again with thick foil lid that weighs less than the Titan Kettle I coveted for years before finally splashing out to treat myself. My old, cheap makeshift gear works just as well as the fancy new stuff and has very similar weight. It may not be as robust or fashionable, but only costs pennies to replace or in the case of the stoves, they are free and found everywhere. I haven't bothered with the Trangia simmer ring magnet mod, as I find my mini Leatherman pliers do the job. I have however, loosened the swivel on my simmer ring by gentle tweaking with same pliers so it moves more freely and is easily adjusted with a knife or stick. Trangia 27 and 28 are great in any weather, and completely silent. They may not be as fast as a Jetboil or Pocket Rocket but they are almost bombproof and will last a lifetime if looked after properly.

I still use my mum's Trangia, which she bought (we think) around 1978. It's older than me but still works exactly like the day she bought it. I don't have any fancy mod cons for it like that stand you have, just the traditional one. I even have the original box it came in too! It's so simple with as few working parts as possible, which is why it's so good. The minute you introduce fuel regulators and lighting switches, you have things that can break or not work as well as another companies version. Trangia is just so simple. A tub with some holes in it and a lid to store the flammable liquid inside. Done.

I bought a Phazor dome tent in 1980. The fibre glass poles gave up the ghost around 1994 and were replaced with aluminium. I finally moved on in 2015 when the fabric started to fail. Incredible tent. I now use a Samaya tent.
My Optimus stove, also bought new in 1980 is still going strong as well.
I also bought a pair of Thermarest self inflating mats in 1990 and both still perform flawlessly - and have never leaked nor been punctured. Who remembers the cagoules we used to wear and which soaked us from within? Yup, I still have my 1980 version along with two Javelin fleece jackets that are still looking good. My Trangia, bought circa 1985 still looks like the day I bought it second hand in a market. I bought it with the pre-burner bottom attachment and everything still works just as intended. Oh yes, my 1980 Karrimor (Jaguar?) rucksack was fine as well until I stupidly lent it to a friend (now ex-friend) a few years ago and who liked it so much he just wouldn’t give it back.

I've got that exact same Pathfinder nesting set, including the fishhook pot hanger., all bought on the basis of reviews by (going to say, though not 100% sure) either Survival Lilly or Shawn Kelly comparing pros and cons of stainless steel to titanium. Obviously, whist titanium is lighter than steel, and does cool down quicker, it isn't nearly as robust and can easily deform if, for example, you accidentally stand on it.

I bought an extra simmer ring and ripped the "sliding lid" off it so its just the ring, makes it fit all manner of stoves and holders for the burner. then just keep the original to snuff the flame with, i dont have the hassle of having a super hot simmer ring that i need to fiddle closed to snuff the burner. I found that just blocking the jets around worked fine for temp control, and i never used it half closed and such.

I swear by the Trangia Triangle and Stormin Norman cone for all my WC cooking. The change I've made is not to user the Trangia burner, instead I use a Speedster/ SBP 50ml or 30ml burner with the TT (they're spill proof and lighter) and place the burner in the Trangia solid fuel or gel tray. Works perfectly and keep the flame at the correct height...and the simmer ring with the SBP stoves is much simpler to use.

I carry a Trangia burner and some alcohol in the trunk of my car for emergency use, but I wouldn't carry one in the backcountry again. As previously mentioned, many years ago my Trangia burner (part of a full top of the line cook set) spontaneously sprang a leak, causing an uncontrolled fire to spread over a wood table on onto the ground. And, I had NOT let it burn dry, either then or on any other prior occasion. Fortunately there wasn't a high wildfire risk at the time, but I've never trusted these burners since. Also, the uncontrolled nature of an alcohol stove means that they are not allowed in some jurisdictions; plus the energy to weight ratio is not as high as most other types of stoves.

I have owned and used the Trangia for over 35 years now.

Recently, after watching your video, went to GO in York, their tills will thank you! I purchased a more modern gas system, for when i just need to boil water, as my trangia doesn't have the hole in the side for the gas conversion kit. I think i needed a new base or a hack saw plus the kit. For camping, cooking and nostalgia the Trangia is my favorite.

Paul, keep up the good work. I hope your knee is nearly fixed.

I love my trangia 25.
However, I use the gas burner for it which kind of defeats the purpose of the original invention.
I really tried to get on with the meths burner but found it a bit of a faff and it made the pots dirty etc,
I’m a car camper so I can afford to carry the extra weight of gas and gas burner, but still carry the meths burner.
If I were backpacking or in a serious situation, I’d rely on the failsafe meths design

I've had my Trangia for 30 years and still going strong. I've got a MSR Whisperlite stove that's a similar vintage. It's still going strong. I've only recently retired my Macpac Eclipse tent bought in in 1986. It was lightweight back then (2.4kg). It has been up and down New Zealand and around Australia. It's survived some gnarly southerlies in NZ and a good dose of outback heat. It never let me down. Good gear can last a lifetime.

Sounds a bit crazy it was 1986 but if it rings a bell !? I’m planning a trough hike this summer and like to visit the place .
