Babylon refers to people who will abuse their positions and talents for financial gain, such as:

Like in the time of the Tower of Babel these immoral persons will use their talents and positions to make a name for themselves instead of serving God.

The immoral persons live a lavish lifestyle enriching many businesses (merchants) with their purchases (Rev. 18:3). They reach such wealth that they believe that they will always be rich and happy (Rev. 18:7). But within a short time, all will collapse permanently (Rev. 18:8 and 21). The kings/leaders who benefited from their injustices/adulteries immediately start to distance themselves and lament over their fall (Rev. 18:9-19).

The angel urges us to get out and repent (come out of her) Rev. 18:4. Else, the consequences for those places and peoples; they will become the dwelling of demons, impure spirits and unclean birds and detestable animals.

Just my thoughts… in Scripture, nations, kingdoms, empires are described as beasts. Babylon the Great is described as a harlot that fornicates and rides, manipulates the beasts. I’d look more to the systems of global finance, international commerce more likely to be the harlot. When Babylon falls, it’s the merchants and shippers that feel the pain. Maybe completely wrong, just makes more sense.

Mystery Babylon needs to be understood through the lens of DAN 7 and his vision of the 4 successive beast empires. Start with the 4th and last. What is it? It is the special and unique empire of the antichrist that will be in control during Jacob’s Trouble/Daniel’s 70th week/ the 7 years of tribulation as it is commonly referred to. This last beast empire only starts with the Antichrist! Hold that thought….

Now consider the 1st beast kingdom empire of Daniel’s vision. This is the original world empire: the original Babylon. Not a city, an empire. It’s capital was also a city named Babylon. What happened to it? It was violently overthrown suddenly and replaced by the 2nd beast kingdom empire….

This 2nd world beast empire was the Medes/Persians. And just like Babylon it was violently overthrown by the 3rd world beast empire: Greece.

Therefore if the Antichrist’s 4th beast kingdom is unique and differ than the other 3 as Daniel describes, its NOT the “Mystery” Babylon of Revelation. Hold that thought as well….

The other take away then is that we must be living in the 3rd world beast kingdom empire of Daniel’s vision. There is no other option! And just like the 1st and 2nd world beast kingdoms were violently overthrown so the subsequent beast kingdom could emerge, so it must be in the transition from the 3rd beast kingdom to the antichrist’s 4th! We are waiting for this transition to occur…..

Now consider the 3rd world beast kingdom empire: Greece. The idea of Greece can be seen in our present day as basically an world based empire revolving around western democracy ideas, even though “Greece” as we know it today geopolitically is not in control so to speak.

Revelation calls this 3rd world empire beast kingdom of Daniel’s vision “Mystery” Babylon. Today we live in the world system called “Mystery” Babylon. The original Babylonian “spirit” never went away. It is still here and grew through the 2nd beast kingdom and continues to grow now in this 3rd beast kingdom in which we live. The reason it is called “mystery” Babylon is because our geopolitical system is made up of countries today. The “mystery” is that the Babylonian spirit is what drives the beast kingdom we live in. Its “hidden”. Hopefully this makes sense.

The 3rd world beast empire that we live in right now is called “Mystery Babylon” and it must be completely destroyed geopolitically in order for the antichrist’s 4th beast 7 year duration kingdom can arise.

And this is EXACTLY what Revelation describes! Not to mention Jeremiah, Isaiah etc.

Mystery Babylon is completely destroyed at the very beginning of the 7 year tribulation. I won’t go into detail here about that but suffice to say it is completely destroyed. Go read about it!

Lets look at “Mystery” Babylon with contemporary geopolitical eyes. We know its a world empire. Our present geopolitical world is made up of countries, not the city states, kingdom type arrangements of ancient history, but countries. Empires have capitals. Therefore, our 3rd beast kingdom in which we live must have a capital. Its not a “city” per se as Revelation describes; its a country. Why? Because that is how the world is set up! The “city” of mystery Babylon is the “country” that is its capital.

Who could that be? In my opinion there is only 1 option. Only 1 country in the world today runs all the others. All the other countries do obeisance to 1 country. Only 1 country enforces its might and power and policies on the rest of the world for ultimately its own benefit. Only 1 country has its foot on the neck of the others applying pressure. Its the United States where I live. The USA is the capital of Mystery Babylon. No other geopolitical entity even comes remotely close!

Even though other countries bow down before the USA hoping to be in its favor, their hate grows! Totally understandable. Read Revelation in this light! It makes sense. The 10 kings originally have no crowns of antichrist distributed power. And they hate Mystery Babylon. They destroy Mystery Babylon and this occurs right at the beginning of Jacob’s Trouble! Notice that these 10 kings don’t receive antichrist crowns of power until AFTER mystery babylon is destroyed. They have prominent places in the 4rth beast antichrist kingdom that arises in the smoking ashes of the 3rd beast kingdom’s destruction……
