Painting Barry Humphries - Portrait Artist of the Year

Simply LOVE Artist of the Year episodes. I simply love it so much.❤

The winning portrait seen here is actually Mark Oliver's son portrait. It is so beautiful, realistically brilliant, alive!, the muscles detail and armpit hair has Caravaggio caliber all over it, and I'm not exaggerating.
Immediately, I thought La BENEDETTI would look glorious with Mark Oliver.
But his Barry portrait was absolutely AWFUL. It looks like W.C.Fields half brother from another mother.

Same with Christos. His son portrait is astonishing!!! Unbelievable!!!
Why on earth would he choose that small pumpkin head for Barry? He got his wicked humor look 👀 in the eyes, but it was not to the level of the Son on bicycle portrait.

KALLUM is the deserved 👏 winner. The portrait of his girlfriend is a masterpiece and a little bit scary, which is always good to see in portraits.
His facial craftsmanship portraits are a true genius level.
Can't wait for the La BENEDETTI PORTRAIT!!!

Callum needs to learn how much the interaction between the figure and the background can add to the complexity of the emotional engagement of and with the sitter.

I would have put the glasses peeking out of the pocket and just a few small feathers on the shoulder. Or maybe a boa tie. ❤

I love the style of Callum, he deserved to win. But I also love the portrait of Christos son with the bicycle - really amazing. All three are great artists. A wonderful final.

Really like it the finalists are only men

There is a significant difference in force between the three people's drawings (pencil, mechanical pencil, and charcoal).

Barrie sadly died last year.
The finalist are very good, the best semifinal until now. Difficult decision for the judges, I love all three of them.

All three were amazing right through to the final! Hard choice but the judges definitely picked the right winner~!

They got it right for a change!
His work reminds of the paintings of Alex Colville and Andrew Wyeth. His final painting was outstanding.

Three fabulous artists. But the young winner is fantastic and inspiring.

Callum and kristos are both first class painters!

Callum was good but actually the least exciting artist of the three.

This was an exciting climax and the best finale. We as artists learn so much from the struggles along the way. Tai says portraiture is alive and well which is great and this program has done an ever increasingly excellent job in revitalizing this medium which is always risky and challenging…🇨🇦👏🏻👏🏻

This is the best final ever. The best sitter with the great Barry Humphries. The winning portraits were stunning, made me rather emotional.

I did like the boy on the bike

I personally liked Christos works the most, his colours and sense of delivering a special atmosphere was on point. Callum’s piece of his girlfriend was brilliant, but to me there was a bit of a lack of variety in his portraits (still they were brilliantly executed but..)

I liked Callum's the least. His drawing of his girlfriend was bad and the painting of her looks like she died and and then rise from the dead. Weird they didn't see it. I will never understand this judges.

Love Callum's work. It has the realism of a photograph and the heart and soul of an artist's portraiture.

I am SO PLEASED it was Callum! I LOVE his work, and I'm glad a Scottish artist will be doing the piece for the Scottish NPG ❤

Eager to watch the final challenge. I hope it doesn't take too long to upload the final chapter.

Best Finals So Far

Damn this was such an amazing final episode to watch man. I mean all three of the artist have done such a phenomenal job 🙌🔥✨!

In all of portrait artists finalists this is the one of highest caliber. Any one of them could have won.

I was happy that the winner was someone very different from previous winners in terms of style. He has absolute command of precision but doesn't lose the heart of the person he paints. Exciting!

I've never understood why they make the celebrity sit for 4 hours when most of the artists take a snapshot and work from that and never looking up at the live model.

Callum is amazing … but Christos was my winner. His paintings were so amazing . His son’s painting was breathtaking .

I am so sorry, but I find the winners style so sterile and almost lifeless. What do the judges see in him? He is very good at photorealism, but there is no joy in his work at all. I am so sad that Kostas did not win as his work had so much more to offer than just a photographic likeness.

Callums commision is a Modern old Master. What a painting
