June Haimoff, known as 'Captain June', who was born in England in 1922 and lived in Dalyan, Muğla's Ortaca district, for many years, passed away on April 23. Captain June was known as the "Mother of Caretta Carettas" because of her international environmental actions and her struggle to protect the endangered caretta caretta species of sea turtles.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Turkey Environment Agency (TÜÇA) and Ortaca Municipality, a monumental statue was built in Dalyan District Kaunos Kral Tea Garden in memory of Captain June, who is known as the symbol of Dalyan and the mother of Caretta Carettas.
