As a pretty recent owner of a Steam Deck OLED, seeing the benchmarks of even the Z2Go steamos Lenovo device does have me feeling a bit of envy lol...

Loving Valve or not, the work they do in favour of linux is simply amazing.
Thanks to them I will try bazzite on one of my miniPC's, and who knows, maybe I will install SteamOS when it's finally released.

Microsoft has gotten an obsession with making sure you try out their stuff whether you're looking for it or not. So what they do is they just enable it, tell you that they did, and then you best hope you can figure out what it did and how to turn it off.

It does it for things that seem malicious, but also for things that aren't but it's just annoying. Just now I was using Word and Microsoft suddenly told me "hey why don't you try this awesome reviews feature" and then the entire document utterly broke until I turned it back off because there were some very strict tolerances on some areas of the document in terms of text size. Or that time they asked me to try out switching keyboard layout with ctrl-shift. No, I can't use that. It breaks my workflow so I turned it off, but all of a sudden it's back because Microsoft literally popped up and told me to try it.

Why do they do this?!

It's like my vehicle's auto-stop function. If I used it in a way that was beneficial, I would turn it on. Normally if I forget to turn it off (it should be a switch not a button) all it does is shut down right before a light turns green, saving nothing while wearing out the components.

Windows comes with a bunch of bloat, nonsense for the average user. Things that we should be able to opt into, sure, but not have to constantly opt out of after every update.

Great video. I have to say there is one major reason to get the original legion go, and that is if your eyesight is kind of poor like mine I had to get this due to its largest screen. I sold my steam deck due to tiny unreadable glyphs and text. At 8.8 inches the legion go is just about good enough but I would even prefer a 9 or 10 inch screen. Keep up the great work

"The device should just handle that for me" is the mentality that has plagued windows.

MS does not know better than me what I want on my device and how I want it to work. When windows was much better than it is now, the way that worked was that I had to go and do work on the system either by installing a software to do the job or write a script to do it (im also of an age where i sort of expect anyone who uses a computer to be able to write a script, even if it's not super complicated).

Over the years MS has tried to hand over such responsibilities to windows. However our expectations and theirs are not in alignment and they dont actually have to listen to people rant about Teams or whatever because there's so much momentum for "Windows" as a unified ecosystem that any particular complaint falls by the wayside.

Linux on the other hand has always been about choice and as a result there's been competition for the best ideas. These are starting to solidify into really great OS' as problems get solved.

I just started using the hibernate feature on linux(KDE) this year. Unless I install updates, i never turn off. Technically hibernate is turn off but with the system state saved on disk rather than like suspend which stores in RAM and uses a low power state that drains the battery.
Hibernate has almost no impact on battery life, afaik.

Awesome video.

Fun fact. is faster installing a Linux friendly distro like Mint, Pop OS or Manjaro with drivers, browser and office suite than making the same process with a Windows factory pre installed version on same hardware. more fun if you do not have internet connection at hand and an already registered outlook account.

Steam OS might be better than windows, but it’s really not all that much of your improvement. OK it’s not even getting ready yet. In my opinion most games require tweaking to get ran on steam os sound games won’t run at all the modeling situation for some games on steam OS is also a disaster games like Skyrim fallout and others not to mention it can’t run certain games that people really wanna play because of certain anti-cheat software‘s not being supported it’s got a lot of work before it can be considered better than windows in my opinion, but there’s a lot of improvements that need to be made before I would even tell someone that they should consider gaming on Linux including steam os plus if you don’t want most of that stuff on windows, you can just uninstall it I mean, you can de bloat windows also being restricted to having to use console 99.9% of the time using steam OS is ridiculous. That’s one of the biggest hurdles about the system. I’m a casual gamer. OK I like to just be able to easily install something through a gooey and uninstall it and update it and that’s it. I don’t wanna have to fucking deal with console.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes...rant near beginning of video, how many times in the last couple of years have I complained about those things with Windows! It's pretty wild (to me) since switching to Linux about a year and a half ago (spent about 6 months learning the command line and how to configure my computer in GNU/Linux)...the experience with Mint/Proton feels like a cross between when I used Windows XP on one computer I built and Mac OSX.2 Jaguar on the mirrored doors G4 I had back in the day! Ah, the good old days...at this rate the more market share Steam OS gets and the more bloated with BS Windows becomes, we will all say a huge THANK YOU!!! to Microsoft for forcing the public to make the year of the Linux desktop a reality - just to have usable computers which is WILD to me, never thought that day would come where Windows is so overly bloated and frankly broken that without Apple, the only viable alternative would be some Linux distro. We will thank Microsoft, Linus Torvalds, Richard Stallman, and a HUGE shout out to his royal majesty...Lord GaBen!

Win 11 is just sucks, for someone who only plays once a week, the OS just sucks so bad, wdym I need to update when I already turn off the setting since D1? Not only that, the updates messed up with my laptop that my wifi doesn't work, that's another hassle I need to make just to play a 3hr sesh, it sucks so bad that I'm considering to dualboot steamOS but reconfiguring things like playing a windows installed games bcs I don't want to waste time to download the same game again, luckily I hv many steam games collections so I imagine that the steam can validate the files and can play like usual, but still so much hassle
