Much appreciate the lore recap, especially how the current Astrologian diverges from its lore back in 3.0.

Have seen all the changes the patches and expansions brought to the mystical job, back in the days when it was a flex pick to fill in Full Parties, as well as switching Sects in between pulls to pre-shield then revert to regens once the pull begins which might be a bit overkill for dungeons, but it is like scrying the threads of fate to ensure everyone arrives at the end of the path - victory (or Duty Complete lol).

The Arcana had seen quite a number of changes but I think if those 3.0 to 4.x effects were retained, these may not bode well with the current state of things where a buff could screw up a fellow's rotation, and while old Bole for mitigation was great, but pulling it multiple times when it isn't needed felt bad. Divination is welcomed as a sort-of replacement to the old Balance + AoE Spread, which was a bit too RNG-dependent in the current iteration of the game, despite it being probably be lore-accurate as the AST is scrying and gently coaxing others to the path of a more favourable fate, even if it meant the Full Party would have to wait for the AST to fish a Balance and the proper Royal Road.

Nocturnal Sect still kind of lives in the form of Neutral Sect, and while it is a sour topic for a number of ASTs, I think the AST!WoL and Leveva could have probably foreseen that. Lol.

As an AST main, I still look forward to what's in store for the Job in the future expansions and patches. Also, had always been a fan of the 6 Arcana having its respective element animations once played. :D

I'm not sure if you've done a video about them yet, but could you do one about the pixies of Il Mheg and the fairies scholars summon? Are they kinda the same?

I miss when astro was the in-between of both a shield healer and a pure healer, I still feel like Sage should have been just a major update for Scholar, since both gameplay and lore they're so similar, they could have written that the sharlayan scholars had been researching the arts of Nym and made a new set of tools to aid in their magiks, it would been nice since Scholar always looks like a graduate and sage looks like a doctor, so then 80 to 90 you become a doctor, I just don't like how now the pure healers are vastly different themes but shield healers are identical

Personally my favorite concept was the angry healer. So be happy White Mage and Astro mains you are loved by me.

Healing magic can't fix a skill issue. but Rescue can fix the problem of them being alive!

I'm a White Mage main, and I loved discovering every part of the job's story. I've been leveling other jobs just in case, but WM is my main job in terms of the main storyline...

They homogenized healers then gave us sage. Look, scholar mains want our old class specialization back; DoTs. We used to have 5 DoTs. It also made sense as the Scholars of old had to become masters of poison and curses due to their enemies reliance upon it. Gameplay wise, it allowed scholars to plant a bunch of DoTs then properly heal and shield as needed and thus play in a tactical manner.

Yes I am a scholar healer, yes I am the one explaining mechanics and calling movement during a fight.

I main Scholar and when I started I was nervous as hell to call others out on how they played.
Now I usually see things through to the first boss and start calling commands if needed XD

Proud White Mage and Scholar main here, though admittedly I do fully use Summoner during solo content.

Now that I think about it... shouldn't White Mages be considerably diminished in ability, while they are in an area low or completely bereft of aether, like the Burn, in term of lore? More so than other characters, who draw power from within their own bodies?

I do have synasty(? Whatever spelling hard and cant be assed to look it up) in my Astro hotbar!... And from lv got the skill to 90 ive used it actually... Once i think and saw how useless it is haha.

I only became a healer main cuz my buddy plays tank and I can't play dps lol. And I only play AST, I recently learning how to play tanks.

I main Ast and I'm actually love reading tarot cards irl and the stars and the night sky had always held a fascination for me combine that with the fact it's a healer and I had my perfect class (even if in the begain people we're screaming at me to use Nutral sect when it didn't exsit at the time I started playing UGH)

I must respectfully disagree on Sage. Your warrior of light has chosen Sage because pew pew flying lasers and you damn well know it.

I like what you said about SCH. I’m not a raid lead at all, but when we’re progging, my mind is always going on on what each person could do to optimize through mechanics. When do we need a party speed boost? When do we need a large shield? When to deploy Seraph?

I use carbuncle and fairies to help show how to do mechanics.

I pay attention to the way mechanics work so I can explain behaviorally how to deal with it (such as Void Stardust).

But also, being a SCH is about thinking ahead, because to do your “cheats” through mechanics, you have to prep beforehand.

But I also love their lore and their animations. Some folks hate the “computery” graphics, but it’s actually the most accurate trait of a Final Fantasy Scholar. Scan Magic has always been “techy” (see Stat-o-Vision trope). But it shows in their attack spells.

The Scholars of Nym didn’t outdo Nym or Amdapor in raw magic. They never could. However, they were analytical. They were resourceful. They pin-point weaknesses so that a Simple Broil spell could be as powerful as a Glare. They find an opening to pour aether into it (Biolysis) vs. drilling like Día.

Also, as someone who to both college and a very academic field in the military, it sorta resonates with me.

the way you described sages are being very precise and accurate made me picture them as the surgeons of the healers, and hey given their more futuristic aesthetics maybe that's meant to come across. very cool video!

FF14's editions of Sage and Scholar have disappointed me on so many levels.
Do I like them as FF14's healer jobs? Yes.

Do I like what they are compared to the actual FFXI Scholar, and the other FFs' Sage? Hell no, not in any stretch of the imagination.

I main Sage but I was a 8404 Corpsman " combat medic" for 5 years. My main tank is Warrior and main dps is Red Mage but overall i main Sage now

so the elementals basically confirm my beliefes, i'm in fact a god and justified in judging who's to live and who to die...neat.

Don't you just hate it when you are DPSing as a healer and then teammates take damage. ugh.

God, this made me love Astrologian even more and makes me miss my Nocturnal Sect.

As a white mage the worst feeling is when you cast benediction on the tank who dies but doesn't receive the heal and your cast is still wasted ;'(

I was actually thinking of the different ways in which each of the healing classes use their magic when I thought about all of the Scions healing you-know-who near the end of EW. It seemed a bit reduntent at first outside of just making for a good cutscene, but then I realized that each of them work in a slightly different way, and there by, they could each be doing something different in the healing process, meaning they had a much better chance of saving that person than by just having one of them healing, and it gave that scene a bit of new lore context for me and made it even more powerful.

My favorite part of SGE lore is how poetic its portfolio is: an expert of 3 fields; medicine, the study of the body, aetherology; the study of the soul, and sorcery, the manipulation of both. That line was leagues more bonechilling than the DRK questline every delivered when i first read it, in its own unique way

I was always terrified to try healers so I didn’t until I was level 70. Instead of just leveling up the starter healers, I fully flung myself into it with Sage and ended up fully falling in love with it. I have genuinely come in clutch with some party saving moves on Sage before.
