Nextbase 522GW Dash Cam with Alexa Reviewed!

Hi, did you format the SD card on the dashcam settings before using the device? The format card can be found in the settings section. In addition, I seem to be having problems with this device. it stops recording while I'm driving 😤

Does this one easily unclip at the top to remove overnight? I have the 312gw and when you push the top out it slides off leaving the mount and wiring in place.

Are you able turn off the Alexa part?

had mine for a year now, stops recording all the time, the battery doesn't charge anymore has to be plugged in all the time, error keeps popping up saying format SD card, the app freeze all the time and doesn't download the videos. horrible experience with mine. looks like you had a good one, because I see a lot of comments having the same issue as mine. bad build quality, good video tho. and i am out of warranty can't even change the battery easily have to solder it what a joke. sorry had to say this for other people to be aware feel free to delete it tho.

first person I have seen spell out alexa on a video so that others dont turn on, respect!!!!!!

If like me you do not have a smart touch screen phone , or a tablet , your knackered for bluetooth or Alexa connection to your 522 Nextbase .

If you don't have Alexa how can you do voice commands. Is Alexa necessary to have in order to use this dash cam?

Great review and because of it I just picked up the new upgraded 622GW, can’t wait for a nice day to hook it up.

My understanding is that NextBase is a UK-based company, which is great. When buying products I always go out of my way to find out where the company is from, and I fully avoid Chinese-based companies; not in favor of supporting a genocidal oppressive nation. I know, many western companies still have their manufacturing in the China, but if I find a product made elsewhere I choose it instead.

Can a second front-facing camera be connected as a rear-based camera?
What’s the difference between the two units? I notice the rear unit is significantly smaller than the front unit? Is there a difference in video quality?

I have just got one of these. I am confused though. If my car is parked, and someone crashes into it, if it starts filming after the event, isn't it too late?

I can’t get the micro SD card out. I don’t want to break it, so can someone tell me if it’s a push-in-to-pop-out, or just pull out with your nail?

Well , I don't think much of my new 522GW Nextbase dash cam ... I've used the Next Base 402G for many years until it play up some .. so I bought what I believed to be a better product from Nextbase .. it turned out to be a load of garbage .. the performance is not even close to my old Next Base 402G dash cam .. just saying ....

As a Arizona resident who's vantrue N2 crapped out due to the heat I'm excited about this, although I think it will come inside with me

I think 1440 30fps resolution is better to use than the 1080 60fps since in day time the shutter speed will be so fast that all the frames will be sharp and the resolution will give you more detail and in lowlight it will let in double the light although there will be more motion blur

I have the 622GW and I was having trouble with the video quality. Turned out that you must use a NextBase SD card , I tried a larger 128g Samsung but that was no good , video quality was poor . This camera is awesome !

Has anyone gotten their stupid phone app to actually work?

Be advised, this dashcam is very buggy. It fails when you need it and does not have anything you would recognise as a battery. I believe it is a high capacity capacitor rather than a battery. The charge lasts about 2 minutes without power from the cable.

Apparently this is the best on the market but I think it is very terrible. I was expecting a mobile phone like device that just records video but it is like something that was made when the first smart phones came out, very slow and difficult to operate.

The device constantly resets itself whilst you are driving and the touchscreen is very sensitive when you don't need it and unresponsive when you do.

Also I have had to reset it manually several times as it stopped working for no reason.

You said it has internal battery that means I don't have to connect to my battery??

With having a battery built in, how does this fare in hot temperatures long term?

I'm in NM and there is no mercy from Spring thru Summer with the heat! Just saw you have a 622 review and I'll check that out too! the nextbase 522 is a nice camera but what this guy isnt telling you is that the 522 doesn't have night vision...but still a nice camera.

You're choosing for the government to track you with that dumb emergency app/call the services thing. Dumb.

I've got one of these and the internal battery has been shutting down , I contacted next base their explanation was it's a very small battery it's also been overheating the front camera , the rear one is ok , occasionally you can't see recent footage , on your smart fone , it was a good dash cam to begin with but it has its faults

Using NextBase dash-cam very bad video quality cannot take footage of moving objects as like number plates etc and night footage is rubbish. Not recommend all of its models.

Hi this is probably a daft question, but do I have to have Alexa at home to use this feature?

My camera gives me an error message, that the SD card needs formatting ! Not sure if it’s working, because of a lack of a manual. So far, it sucks, it was professionally installed. I’m not really enjoying mine, yet!

Any issues with park mode anyone ?
