ОтветитьI’m old enough to remember "the Catch" that Willie Mays made in the 1954 World Series.
ОтветитьThis has to be the most overrated play of all time.
ОтветитьEl béisbol se invento para él 😋 decía la leyenda
ОтветитьBecause of Willie Mays, Baseball Tonight has Web Gems
R.I.P. Willie Mays
This catch by Mays, as well as the pivot and throw to hold the runners, is sick. Vic Wertz hit his share of line shots in his day and had to believe this was going for a triple at the very least.
There is at least one video here that purports to denigrate the merits of one of the finest plays ever seen, but I do not propose to bother over giving such claptrap the time of day.
My father was there, in the centerfield seats about 8 rows up. He was 20 years old.
ОтветитьThis is just every catch animation on mlb the show
ОтветитьThis was "The Catch and Throw" actually. Notice how fast he got the ball back into the infield with the bases loaded in the eight inning of a world series game. Hey "MLB Vault"; Why no description? September 29, 1954, during Game 1 of the 1954 World Series at the Polo Grounds. Giants went on to win the game in extra innings and eventually win the series.
ОтветитьPeople who never played outfield don't understand how much talent and skill this took to pull this off. This to me is one of the hardest catch an OF could try. Especially running deas straight back. Amazing player
ОтветитьIn my neighborhood Willie Mays was baseball.
ОтветитьWhat year was this
ОтветитьMy 10 year old son bought me 24 Life Stories and Lessons From The Say Hey Kid for Xmas. After reading all evening, I’m watching Mays’ highlights 🧡🎄⚾️
Ответить💛💛🎉
ОтветитьHammonds was better.
ОтветитьThe throw was just as good. Not looking at the field, turns and throws with momentum going backwards and still throws a laser
ОтветитьOVERRATED
ОтветитьAnyone here from City Slickers
ОтветитьIn no way do i want to bag the guy but if this was regarded as like some kind of insane catch or something and he was one of the "best of all time" what are todays players .... today this is just a regular catch miss a few of them you likely have your contract termimated....
ОтветитьGreat catch but there's been better more difficult catches
ОтветитьHow have i not heard about this mans death yet? What the actual hell?
ОтветитьThe fact that right after the catch, he just no-look launches it 250 feet back to second with good accuracy is almost more impressive
ОтветитьWhy has no one mentioned the Willie Mays catch… of a marshmallow… with his gullet… hit by a tennis racket!?!! That was nuts!
ОтветитьShow the throw too!
Ответитьrip to the say hey kid! they should have shown the whole throw too.
willie was, to me, the greatest all-around player i ever saw. could hit (for power AND average), catch, throw, run. probably could've pitched if he wanted to.
Nowadays players complain if the outfields are this big and beg for the fences to be pushed in🙄
ОтветитьI got a few Willie Mays cards, but if I could go back in time around 1974 at the Flea Market, I would have bought them all, if I knew what I know now. 🤓
ОтветитьFAKE
ОтветитьSay Hey Kid!
ОтветитьHeard that after the catch he threw out a runner at second.
Ответитьcan someone make this colorized and hd or sumn?
ОтветитьI was actually at a local baseball game when I heard the news.
I wish I couldve seen him play but I was born in 1995.
If it wasnt for Babe Ruth, many lists would rank him at #1
RIP
What's even more interesting is that Vic Wertz actually went 4-for-5 in the game, and this play was the one out he made.
ОтветитьOne of the geatest moments in baseball history.
ОтветитьThat was at the Polo Grounds in NYC, which is within walking distance from here. Amazing to think that that catch happened there. It’s now a bunch of housing projects.
ОтветитьGreat Catch☝️Great Guy👈
ОтветитьMy childhood hero🤘and still the same hero
ОтветитьThe Polo Grounds is so cool.
Ответитьrip
ОтветитьBorn to be great.
ОтветитьWheres the run saving throw? Was someone on 3rd base?
ОтветитьRIP legend
ОтветитьR.I.P.
ОтветитьWe love this catch not because Willie found the ball but because the ball found him.
ОтветитьAmazing play… this is really history right here.. RIP WILLIE
ОтветитьI was able to make a similar catch which was just luck throwing my glove up but when I turned and threw with runners on the bases it went way out of bounds. From GOAT to Billy goat.
ОтветитьWillie was one of the best. He was only outshined by mantle because he wasn’t white. But I’m glad he’s gained all this recognition over time , especially since his passing, rip Willie.
ОтветитьGoat 🐐
