A visit from Will's Mom and youngest brother. Then covering with bark bark and more bark, a nice thick layer to suppress weeds.

The benefits of applying bark chips as a skin to bare soil:
1. Assists with positive microbial activity in the soil
2. Lures Decomposers such as millipedes and woodlice to the garden to speed up the process of decay.
3. Can assist with PH balance for a healthy soil if applied regularly at least once per year. Good and thick.
4. Assists with water retention in a BIG way.
5. Always try and use pine bark - not wood chips (doesn't really have the same effect.
6. It'll assist with Mycellium in the upper root layer.
7. Bark increases the humus build up and provides nutrients
8. Keeps the soil cooler on hot days and warms it up on cold ones.
9. Lasts relatively long.
10. Increases the soils fertility as it breaks down.
11. Is Aesthetically pleasing

These are just some of the benefits you can experience from 'barking'. All you need is at least 5 to 10cm around trees and shrubbery to keep them warm and prevent the soil from washing or blowing away. This is ecologically VERY beneficial to your garden.
