When you ripped the board length-wise just before the trim board and get a narrower board, do you leave the edge a sharp 90 degree cut or to you try to router a rounded edge so it matched all other board?
Ответитьwhat do you to to that exposed cut end hanging off the end of the deck on the breaker board?
ОтветитьGreat videos, Dr. Decks, always helpful and informative for us DIYers. I plan to expand my existing 8 x 28 rear deck to 16 x 28. I intend to use picture framing and a breaker board down the middle to avoid splices. I plan to use Timber Teck Prime Sea salt grey which is a scalloped bottom. I'm confused about 2 items:
1. Adding fascia under a 3/4" deck board overhang or flush mount to top of deck boards with NO overhang. Which do you recommend.
2. this is related to item 1. If I install a breaker board all the way to the edge of the deck (with a 1/2" overhang and fascia installed under the edge deck board), the deck material will show and not have a finished look. (Especially with a scalloped bottom board.)
Should I plan to have a splice at the breaker board location and run the breaker beard before the picture frame. FYI, i won't have this problem since the other end of the breaker board abuts to the house and won't be visible. I much appreciate your help on this.
Do you run your composite decking straight into the patio door, or do you leave a little gap between deck and door for water purposes? Thanks Dr Decks!
ОтветитьYour an artist man, it does get confusing sizing a deck for no seams or ripping down boards, im building one now, ive probably measured this frame a few thousand times lol
ОтветитьI don’t live in OR, and have never hired, worked with or for, and can’t personally testify to Dr. Decks workmanship.
Despite all that, this guy really appears to have a level of integrity that isn’t as common as it should be.
I just cant get over you paying 140 bucks for each deck joist, you material cost is insanely high, your voice is nasaly and higher pitched, and it appears you really love to hear yourself talk... I know you said you work for high end customers, WOW THATS GREAT, the reason you don't have as many subs as you like, is because you come off as having an elitest attitude. Try and remember, your not a brain surgeon, your a doctor who builds decks, where do I sign up to get the most expensive decking materials in the world, your videos are great, ive been a carpenter for 40 years, I build additions, garages etc, but nothing as difficult as a deck , thank you for showing us all the right way to build things
Ответитьdid it for treated 5/4 flooring and it looks awesome as well. I even chamfered the ends of every board and it looks professional AF.
thanks
Meticulous attention to detail. Very nice work.
ОтветитьHey Dr. Decks, great channel full of useful insights! When you build a waterproof deck using EPDM pond liner, do you also wrap the furthest (outside) joist in rubber before you install the Timbertech fascia? Or, do you count on moisture/water dripping through between the last joist and the fascia? If you do not waterproof a deck, do you put EPDM between the last joist and the fascia?
ОтветитьFire the camera man
ОтветитьHow to lay deck boards at 45 degrees when multiple pieces are needed to cover the length? Do you have to cut them at 45 degrees in order to screw it to the joists also can fasteners be used somehow?
ОтветитьThank you for all your posts. I was stumped trying to replace my wood porch decking with composite, until I watched your videos.
I was doing picture frame joints, but will now I want to use your technique for gluing trim pieces to the end of the boards.
You said a fewer sent you a drawing for a rig to safely cut the trim pieces. Will you share that with me?
Gary
Only 18% 'cmon fellas, help em out.
Great info.
Im heading out to add fasteners to clients deck where they rusted out. There is also a breaker board in the center and ot shows no fasteners. 🤔
The planks on one dide of the breaker board are lower than the other side. I saw the deck after it was installed and i recall it was nice and even then.... 10+ years ago. I think they may have installed screws from the underside somehow. The deck is low, so no way to view the under side to see what caused this unevenness. Im going to use some magnets from the top side to locate fasteners then see if i might pry the board loose, fix the problem, the screw back from the top.
I dont know if this is Trex, Timber tec or something else.
Curious, what is an average price per square ft. on the Labor?
ОтветитьWhat brand of boots do you wear?
ОтветитьYour always going to have a rip, you should always put it against the house. The board dimensions/spacing/squareness etc. will never be perfect/even/uniform.
ОтветитьHow do you trim the boards against the house with the track saw?
ОтветитьJason, most people use a 45-degree corner on the deck border to hide the cuts. How to you treat the exposed (cut) board edge on your herringbone corners?
ОтветитьCan we see the deck installed of you talking?
ОтветитьI have ideas about doing this without ever cutting the tape.. because, if you cut the tape- what tf put the tape on in the first place?? This part of the process drives me crazy each time, I will try out my new idea on next deck and report back on how it worked!
ОтветитьI like the way you guys did the flooring on the deck
ОтветитьDOCTOR..... WHEN YOU MAKE A CUT DO YOU HAVE TO PAINT THE BOARD AFTER YOU CUT IT ?
ОтветитьDr. Decks, question: I noticed in this deck build video you did not miter any corners. You kept them square. Could you please explain. Thanks
ОтветитьThank you for the videos. I'm building a deck with Fiberon Goodlife and I want the decking on the stairs and the rim to go over the 3/4" fascia just a little but was wondering if this will work okay. The Goodlife product has three large scallops which means one of the scalloped areas would need to sit on the PVC trim board. Will this work okay? I'd love to see a video on this. No one that I have seen has addressed this very well.
Ответитьplease have camera show the deck details and less focus on you
ОтветитьYes, you do build a high quality product! Love your videos. I have learned a lot watching them. But really I just find it relaxing to watch and learn from folks that obviously take pride in their craft! Thank you.
ОтветитьTo much “me” and too little “pics”.
ОтветитьDo you have a Fascia installation video or short.
ОтветитьSubscriber who loves all your videos. Not a deck builder but interested in the details of how (almost) everything works.
ОтветитьOkay, the drilling on point with the beats tho.. your editor is doing too much. 🙌
ОтветитьLuv the quality, and aiming as high as is possible. I'm getting so many great ideas from Dr. Deck! I am retired from a punching a clock, and starting my own handyman business. 63 and still spunky, Thanks Man!
ОтветитьI’ve been wondering what Chuck Liddell has been up to.
Ответитьwhat are the support stands for the the miter saw?
ОтветитьCalling yourself "doctor" just because you're a skilled carpenter is a form of stolen valor because you haven't earned that title. I'm outta here...
ОтветитьWhy have the outside edge on the two boards that go around the perimeter? Seems like the other boards would keep running past the joint
ОтветитьI likewood
ОтветитьYour detail explanation helps tremendously
ОтветитьGreat content, but the editing makes this visually impossible to watch - all the choppiness in the cuts, and literally cutting to the beat of the music makes this visually unwatchable. Please have your cameraman hold the camera steady and please tell your editor not to splice out microseconds of footage. I honestly had to turn my laptop away and just listened to the content because the editing was so choppy.
ОтветитьOk , I subbed.very Informative , I’d like to see more of the work you do.
ОтветитьJust found your channel. Excellent vid.
You sir, are a true master craftsman.
I'm happy to tell you that you now have a new subscriber. 👍
How many contractors are this knowledgeable?
ОтветитьIs gray the new black?
ОтветитьNice video
ОтветитьYour cameraman forgets to show the work, we enjoy your face and beauty but show more of the decks please!!! 🤣
ОтветитьVery excellent workmanship!
Ответитьso is the facia flush with the top of the deck or does the decking overhang an inch or so? is this just preference?
ОтветитьGreat info!! Love the picture deck without the 90 degree angle which make me feel inadeguate. Will make mine like that. One tip though, the fast motion is cool but made me sick to my stomach, not cool 😂
ОтветитьSubbed brotha! Your work is first rate!
