ОтветитьYou definitely run into some really bizarre repairs from time to time. I once found a system where the condenser fan blade had been reinstalled upside down, with the hub and set screw facing the motor. That made it super difficult to get a wrench on the set screw, so I can't imagine how this guy never realized that he put it on backwards. Pretty scary when you think about how much extra effort he put in, to do it wrong.

After cleaning the condenser coil, I test the heat coming off the condenser fan. Outside was 99° and the air coming off the top was 122°. The amp draw for both the condenser fan and compressor were too low. This was a 1993 Lennox Sit System. I suggested to the customer to replace the system.

Isn't it working better if it is hotter? That would mean it is rejecting more heat. What you don't want is a condenser not rejecting much heat though admitedly newer systems that are more efficient have lower splits.

ОтветитьI have seen old equipment have what I feel like is fan blade fatigue. Have seen particular older Trane splits that the fan blade lost its pitch or something, and a fan blade replacement brought the head down and bought units a little more life. Something to consider in relation to this topic.

ОтветитьI find 8-12 on a R-410a unit and 18-22 on a R22 unit. It’s something I check on every single unit so I evaluate exactly how the unit operating. Pretty neat if you ask me.

Ответитьwhat is the problem with a sys. if the condensor split is lower when the pressure is higher and. the split is higher when the pressure is lower. i thought the split should be the same with ambient temperature changes ?

So the fan is meant to help the condenser reject heat? If i understand correctly, the fan pulls cool air through the sides in order to pass by the condenser coils and the air will then absorb the heat from the gas refrigerant, and pass out the top of the A/C. The refrigerant will also turn back into a liquid as the temperature drops. Am I correct? Correct me if I'm wrong please

Question for anyone: Can having too cold of air around the condenser coils be an issue? If you could reasonably lower the temperature of the air going into the condenser coil without harming any of the other components, would that be a bad thing/would there be an issue with that? In my mind, having colder air going into the condenser coils will make it easier for the condenser coils to dump more heat per cycle, but I have no experience with HVAC. Would there be a dangerous or bad temperature to get those down to that might cause issues with the system, or is it only about temperature difference of air in vs air out?

ОтветитьHow the hell do you actually find design condenser td? I have gone so deep into trying to find it. Total heat of rejection divided by refrigeration effect? Am I suppose to just trust these ball park numbers I’ve gotten from instructors based off seer ratings? How am I suppose to find required saturation temp which is outdoor ambient temp plus design condenser temp drop? Am I missing something?
ОтветитьI will crack up every time I see a tech with his psychrometers of the condenser. Stop it. Throw your hand over the top and get a quick evaluation of heat rejection and spend your time measuring consequential things.
