Mistake #4 is a sham. If you want to hear yourself with effects then you can set up a second channel to record with them and mute the feedback of the dry channel so they’re not overlapping. But you certainly want the least amount of effects on the working track that’s going in the mix. Recording with so many vsts can overwork your cpu and cause many problems that won’t be able to be fixed without doing another take.

In one point i can´t follow you 100%: The right microphone for the right voice is essential. For me, better my voice, the NT1a works much better than for example an AT2020 or even the SM7B. I don´t blame those mics, I use them all but choose which is the one that fits to the voice of the person I have to record. In some cases even the Fame CM1 was the perfect microfone for the singer...

i dry record, blame my mic and never prep hahahaa, but i still enjoy it. music is fun. also the reason for dry recording is that i get a second delay or more when hearing my own vocals so its useless nontheless to me.

Quick tip: if your room is very shit sounding acoustically speaking, use a dynamic mic vs a condenser and mic closer when possible to get less room sound!

I could never record with effects cause there was always a delay that I could never get rid of that throws you off. Would you know how to fix that?

Im not having an issue with my mic, but with my audio interface lol. As soon as I try to use the built in effects it turns into a cutting mess. Using the Soundblaster k3+, and gonna get something more user friendly. The lack of software support or how to use it out of the box is just sad, and Ive tried just about every scenario except using a different pc. Gonna make a trip to guitar center on thursday

As a metalcore vocalist, I do not stand back. At all. Pop filter sure. Sm7b can handle the intense vocals, though.
In the studio, not home but a professional studio, same thing. Up on it, get levels set, and go.
Screaming is not as loud as people think. There's singing that's louder, frankly.
Point is, the right mic can mitigate your distance fears, and harsh vocals do not need to be far away.

another mistake is working on beats at a high volume for a while, it makes every vocal hurt your ears even if its properly mixed

Why are you using Windows instead of MacOS. I mean, I am a Windows user and that's why I know that Windows is not ideal for music production or any work that is related to audio.

I decided to buy a Focusrite 2i2 after Tascam US-2X2 and I still have crackling audio issues. My Windows 10 laptop has the drivers updated to the latest version, I even installed the latest Focusrite 2i2 driver and tried to use the external 5V power adapter, I changed three USB 2.0 cables but I still have crackling issues. I reinstalled Windows 10 22H2 and I still have crackling issues. I tried both sound cards on a different laptop and they are working without any crackling. What should I do now?

haha still doing the blaming the mic thing man! but i guess i have a valid reason.. since I'm just a start up and don't have enough budget to get a hold of even just an entry level mic -- just using at 23 USD mic as of the moment.. so yeah i'm blaming the mic in some way but I have a lot to learn too in some other aspects specially mixing 🥴😁
