Very much looking forward to the Dune part 2 content
ОтветитьI feel like Frank isn’t so guilty of expressing homophobia in his novels as people say he is. When he explores the topic explicitly in GEOD it’s through Duncan Idaho’s pov, and it’s pretty clear through Moneo that Duncan’s opinions are not shared by Frank because he immediately dunks on Dunc. His homophobia is more apparent in the character of the Baron, but even then, I think it’s more a case of Frank criticizing excessive consumption rather than homosexuality.
ОтветитьIMO, George is a much better prose stylist than Herbert. Septon Meribald's Broken Man speech is, for my money, better writing than just about anything in Dune. Plus, George is just so much more flexible than Herbert. The Dunk and Egg stories feel totally different than the rest of ASOIAF, and his sci-fi is different still. Herbert has some inspired moments, but I think his genius was more in his world building.
ОтветитьHow could this possibly be subjective! It uses numbers! Real numbers!!!
That means it's a fact. It's statistics and you know what they say about statistics!
"Lies, damn lies and other things that are nothing like statistics that prove Schwift was objective!" Famous catchy quote.
Um, GRR is an optimist? He's a nihilist. All good people are stupid and all smart people are evil.
ОтветитьI love you alt
ОтветитьErikson easily beats both of these guys...end of vid.
ОтветитьI tried reaching Frank Herbert for comment several times, but each time only Duncan Idaho came up. Except one time, when a violent sex witch appeared instead and asked about the most arousing walls to climb in the area.
ОтветитьYoo I remember watching round 1 when it came out. I hope youve read Dune 5 and 6 by now and have recognized how wrong you were when you said Martin had the creepier romances. I would take a hundred Martin Incest plots over whatever tf Herbert was going for with Duncan and Murbella. The phrase "Hard Slap" has been forever ruined in my mind.
ОтветитьI think the other thing about syllepsis is that a part of the sentence is working in two different senses at the same time, like one is literal and the other is figurative for example. So he is literally in the expensive sports car, and figuratively in deep trouble. He figuratively let his mouth run away with him, and he literally let his exotic, foreign lover run away with him.
ОтветитьGeorge RR Martin is definitely guilty of reusing phrases – words are wind, dark wings, dark words, little and less, much and more, she could be fucking moon boy for all I know. Etc. But I don’t think it’s a crime, if anything it’s just more world building. I mean, we have a lot of common phrases in the US that people use all the damn time in real life.
ОтветитьFor crime #99, George actually misuses “wroth” a lot. It’s an archaic adjective meaning “wrathful”, but he incorrectly uses it as a noun synonym for “wrath”.
ОтветитьWhy is the volume so low? It's like half the vloume of an Alt Shift X video. Do you really want to be half as loud as that fella.
Ответитьdidnt tyrion look into a mirror so we can see his disfigured face after Blackwater?
Ответитьthe RR is a Catholic thing. you get the second middle name at confirmation. so far as I know, George choose Richard in honor of a family member, but of course I could be misremembering. so him having the RR in his name is a coincidence. however I think it likely that he was somewhat intentionally alluding to Tolkien by including the RR when publishing, as he could have very well just published under "George Martin"
ОтветитьSome of these are dumb. Same names in westeros is just regnal tradition. Protags need not be good people.
Ответитьok but now make one about Shift vs schwift
ОтветитьFor those who care about the series having an ending it's easy Frank.
ОтветитьThe Orange in the "Orange Catholic Bible" refers to the "Orange Order", a Protestant order based in Northern Ireland. It's basically indicating that, in the far future, Catholicism and the various Protestant faiths merge into a single religion.
ОтветитьNumber 55 george with "dark wings, dark words"
ОтветитьI genuinely cant believe that you found Frank not guilty of long intro sentences. That example from book 2 is an atrocity
ОтветитьI disagree about the tragic backstory thing. Ned basically lost his whole family during Robert Rebellion. Jon and Tyrion (along with being abused) is an outcast in their own homes. Dany and her brother has basically been homeless and on the run their whole lives. Theon was taken away from his family at an early age as a hostage. Jaime was abused and manipulated by Cersei. Cersei was raped by Robert multiple times. Brienne was bullied her whole life. Aeron was abused and probably raped by Euron. Jon Connington failed his love which ended in Rhaegar dying and was exiled from westeros. Im pretty sure this is over half the pov character i would say he is guilty.
ОтветитьMake this a series and set Terry Pratchett against Neil Gaiman for the next installment of “Who’s a Better Author?”

Ответитьhmmm4_4 you sleep you dream you wake reasonable con conclusion Goood show kinda nice
ОтветитьWait who is Lyssa Tully based on?
Ответитьgrrm does use 'wroth' in place of 'wrath'. annoying. not sure that counts as a crime though.
ОтветитьRe #77 - unsupported assertions - have you listened to The Telepathy Tapes? Rupert Sheldrake?
ОтветитьI really hate the wasted potential of this idea. This would be really fun to watch if you didn't constantly misunderstand (or intentionally misrepresent) the advice in the book.
ОтветитьFrank is definitely guilty of overusing phrases. He talks about the "blue-on-blue" eyes of the Fremen like every other page, yet I don't still know what color Chani's hair is.
ОтветитьThat picture of Herbert keeps catching the corner of my eye and making me think it's Hemingway. And now I'm being all wistful for a Hemingway sci-fi novel and what that might've been like.
Edit: typo fix
I have been praying to the Seven AND the Godemperor for this one to return!
ОтветитьAn Attack on Titan stream would be so dope
Ответить“Balance” in Star Wars is not about a “balance between good and evil” but more about darkness being an imbalance that should be gotten rid of, but yeah it’s definitely something Lucas did not communicate very well in the films
ОтветитьMy 2 favourite boys who have only read 2 series
Ответитьnot gonna lie, to me it seems like you give grrm way too many passes here while slapping frank with those sins.
ОтветитьA really fun stream, but wow this list has some weird nitpicks. It's basically cinemasins for writers
ОтветитьFor No. 77, "Base your plot on unsupported assertions", I think George is guilty of this in Tyrion's Tysha subplot. I don't know if it's supposed to be intentionally written as Tyrion grasping at straws or if it was an actual unsupported assertion, but Tywin saying "Wherever whores go" just seemed like a dismissive "How would I know?" kind of response, yet Tyrion obsesses over it.
ОтветитьMORE ABRIDGED
ОтветитьFRANK HERBERT: Laughs in completed story
ОтветитьOmg legendary
ОтветитьThe point of dune is the heros are villains
ОтветитьSomeone needs to put Brandon Sanderson on this
ОтветитьI gotta know what he meant by Lysa Tully being based on a real person....
ОтветитьGRRM's characters are all morally reprehensible. His writing is nhilistic garbage.
