There were Puritans and Pilgrims on the Mayflower and other early colonies. Every Colony had financial sponsors who wanted return on their investments. The colonists were essentially laborers of the investors and because during the 1500s trading times smallpox and other diseases were introduced to the native populations, thinning them over time, mostly inadvertently, the colonists were found among various small struggling groups and used by the investors to set up what the investors saw to be trading posts. Our history books romanticize this and the “Christian” side of politics use the religious freedom narrative to legitimize their own political agendas.

I am an hour into this video and I have to note that all the suspense music does not add to the historicity of the arguments presented alongside. The aversion from the principles of the Constitution in the prosperous parts of New England sprang from two forces that were then, as usual, complementary: greed and godliness. The Puritans of New England, it must be remembered, were the Puritans of the Commonwealth they established by revolution in England, where their power was based on commerce and industry, on London and other cities that concentrated mercantile wealth and the rabble that served it.
