Corr: Tragic Prince (Crown Prince) Sado actually died in 8 days not 7 as I said in this video.
[King Youngjo, Crown Prince Sado and King Jeongjo]
Tragic Prince rests now in Hwasung where his son later King JeongJo moved him to rest as he was building his utopia to live happily with his mother once he reached 60 but he died at the age of 48!
King Jeongjo was genius, gallant, scientific and meticulous in all areas of literary, scholastic and martial domains but forever feared of assassination as he was wounded by an attempt assassin within 10 days into the throne. He moved around his sleeping quarters and often slept with clothes on, always reading fervently.
In his whole turbulent and exhausting life, he only loved one women who was a lowly maid, Sung, Dug-Im, She was a daughter of the palace door keeper and let the little Prince when young into the palace when he came to see his father who was locked into the grain chest. She gave him a sweet snack.
When they saw again as the Sung was working for King Jeong-jo's mother, Haekyounggoong Hong Ssi, King Jeong-jo was over the moon. He loved only her in his whole life, though he had taken women to have a son after her death. Twice Sung refused King's offer but King Jeongjo waited and again asked for her...again refused...normally it called for death when refusing King. Later exasperated King scolded her best friend to give the reasons why Sung Dug-Im refused him. Sung then was afraid for her friend's life, accepted the King. She feared being a Queen due to all the jealousy, conspiracy and plts.
They were jubilant. However, their happiness was painfully short lived as their daughter died and their son died when only 5. Being heavily pregnant with the third, Sung became broken hearted and never recovered from lack of strength. King was heart broken.
King Jeongjo eulogy to Sung was full of love and grief-stricken. She was King Jeongjo's eternal love.
The King's scientific approach to create his utopia was fast and meticulous. His annual parade to visit his mother from Hanyang to Hwasung was planned in a military precision with fanfare. His army could be bigger than the national army. His political enemies were dare to attack him as King Jeongjo showed the support he had from his people and his impeccable filial duty to his Mother, Haekyounggoong Hong Ssi and all the horses and soldiers surrounded King was the grand and best planned journey. Hwasung had all the scientific advanced technology.
What a pity that his skin ailment/pimple caused him death. He was suspicious of palace doctors...he often treated himself as he has vast knowledge of medicines as well. The mixture the King's doc prescribed was suspicious as certain two ingredients should never have been used in the treatment of the particular case hence a suspicion of poisoning still lingers with his death.
Perhaps King Jeongjo's grandfather, King Youngjo (r:1724-1776) who was a son of 무수리 ( maid to Inhyun Empress) has the greatest complex of his birth status hence he tried too hard to make his son perfect and best (who was born when King was 41) which suffocated and made Crown prince mentally illness. After Jeongjo, his son, Soonjo at the age of 10 became the King. Regent was Kim who was the 15 year old bride to King Youngjo who married her at 66 (61 year of age gap)! Perhaps he needed then a Byukpa branch of Noron power (Noron then was divided into Sipa and Byukpa).
Though the Byukpa faction, Kim (Jeongsoon Empress) meant well, she sought advice from her relatives, brothers. Andong Kim clan became powerful and they ruled the country selling positions and titles with vast sums of money.
Byukpa of Noron faction ruined Chosun as the darkest 60 years Chosun history was created by corrupted Andong Kim clans after Jeongjo's death (1800) til Heungsun Regent Prince started to rule on behalf of his 12 year old son, Gojong in 1863. The writing was on the wall as modernised Japan will be at the door step of the Korean pennysula..
