god, this series is such a staple in my life its crazy. big props to you toasty, I always use EFD as a lesson in animatics; there's just so much conveyed and said, and there's so much stuff I'm STILL realizing 6 years later.

it also just always makes me happy to see how much people love their OCs. its always so hard to remember that that's really what every character is, ever. someone created them and put so much care into every detail of their identity. it always makes me want to keep writing and creating; because no matter how meaningless you think your characters are, someone will see them and remember them. just like I remember Sanga and Ashivon.

edit; another thing realized! there's suuuuch a deep meaning behind Sanga drawing Ash closer on the "you're holy to me,". i interpret it as "you're holy, to ME", no matter how much her people hate Ashivon, she can't. He will always be holy to her, because she sees through the insane indoctrination she's been through.

I just woke up in the middle of the night in cold sweat, run to my sister, being like "DO YOU REMEMBER THAT ONE ANIMATION ABOUT-" and I described the plot in full detail, hoping she would help me find it... she had no idea what I was talking about. But I did find it and we're watching it together now and omg it's just as fantastic as I remembered? And there's more than one part now?? I'm in heaven

What do you MEAN this was made in 2018/19? 6 years ago is, like, 2015.

Rewatching this for the millionth time in 2025... this series has inspired me so much. Every time I watch it I start thinking about all my abandoned animation WIPs.

something i want to mention that i didn’t realize before: by teaching him to fight with his feet and fists rather than claws and teeth, she gives him back his humanity. he no longer has to be a vicious caged animal—that’s what he was trained to be by only being taught to kill through biting and clawing, but he’s on a human level now. he can fight like a human

I'm probably dumb for asking, but what type of demon is he?

Every now and again I return to watch this video specifically cause I remembered that one kick transition and it sustains me

Given one of Toasty's comments about ash being the nerd boyfriend of the two, and looking back at this video, i think ash is probably (in dnd terms) a lv.5-6 fighter (maaaybe Barbarian?) But then later multiclasses into a wizard with the mind spell during episode 4, while Sanga would probably be a lv 2-3 cleric, with an early swap to monk.

As for subclasses... Ash is probably a gladiator fighter (duh) or a (again, maaaaaybe) beserker Barbarian. Sanga is likely a life cleric (an argument could be made for order) with her monk class being a toss up between Mercy or Open hand.

I'd wager they're both around lv 7-8, depending on how long it was between episode 4 and the end of episode 5, as Ash was a lv. 6 (assuming max) fighter, with his first level into wizard being the casting of the mind spell. He might have gained another level of wizard, making him lv. 8 if episode 5 took long enough and he kept studying, but that's just guesswork.
