@odovicor i think this can show us how far shoegaze is the name of everything with the wall of sound
Ответить@Desiree50 I Thought So. God, I Love Her Voice!!
Ответитьjust amazing. thank you so much for posting.
Ответить@nash665588 Per an earlier post, left-to-right: Barbara Alston, Barbara Massey, Dee Dee Kennibrew and lead Lala Brooks. Barbara Massey replaced original member Pat Wright, but was only briefly with the group, soon replaced by Frances Collins (who can be seen in the two Shivaree! Crystals performances here on YT)
Ответить@brotherjulius a tsunami of sound! perfect analogy-you dont see it coming until it hits you in the face! EXCELLENT
ОтветитьNothing gets better than this, beyond everything.
ОтветитьLittle girls with a beautiful voice and a talent that continues to this day. Loveee!!!
Ответитьman they sounded outrageously good
Ответитьwhat year was this
ОтветитьRight I am confused. Was Darlene love part of the Crystals yes or no? I also would like someone to tell me whether Darlene Love sang on the following Crystals songs - "Da Ron Ron", "He's a rebel", "Then he kissed me". Also I would like to know whether "He's sure the boy I love" was a Crystals because some people tell me it was a song that Darlene love did with her group The Blossoms.
ОтветитьAs I understand it, I have all 4 of those songs on 45's with the credited artist being the Crystals. However, the lead vocal that you hear on those discs is as follows: Darlene Love (Blossoms) - He's A Rebel, He's Sure The Boy I Love Lala Brooks (Crystals) - Da Doo Ron Ron, Then He Kissed Me
Ответить1964
ОтветитьMy favorite group. Love that La La Brooks for real.Peace.
ОтветитьCheck out their version of 'Girls can tell' and also 'Woman in love' Lala's voice is just great on those tracks too..Was Barbra Massey 'Frippy'? Does anyone know? in the book 'There's no other by Barbra Alston, she mentions a girl who toured after Pat left called 'Frippy'.
ОтветитьBe great if the sound was ok. Crappy---is it the record or the sound equipment? Spoils the whole clip!
ОтветитьDarlene Love was not part of The Crystals; she was the lead singer of The Blossoms who did backup singing on most of Spector's records. "He's a Rebel" & "He's Sure . . . were done by The Blossoms. Because Phil wanted to beat Vikki Carr's release of "Rebel" he used The Blossoms instead of the real Crystals. Darlene & Co. are also the Blue Jeans on all the Bob B. Soxx recordings.
ОтветитьYou are correct concerning the lead singers listed above. This is stated Darlene's book, "My Name is Love".
ОтветитьFebruary of 1964, about the time the British Invasion began. The song peaked at #92; was on the charts for only 3 weeks.

ОтветитьLittle boy, you probably don't know it But on the night we met You stole my heart away Little boy, can't help it if I show it
But I wish that you would love me too Just as much as I love you Then I know you would see That you were meant for me
Little boy, please let me be your little girl Little boy, I hope you do believe me 'Cause it would break my heart
If you should walk away Little boy, just say you'll never leave me And I'll give my heart and soul to you
Then you'll see our love is true Yes, and I know you'll see How much you mean to me Little boy, please let me be your little girl I just want to go every place that you go And do everything that you do I just want to know everyone that you know
Then spend my whole life loving you Yes, and I know you'll see How much you mean to me Little boy, please let me be your little girl Little boy Little boy Little boy

Phil Spector was the producer of Beatles album 'Let it be'.
ОтветитьOn this day in 1964 {January 11th} the Crystals performed "Little Boy" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
Fifteen days later on January 26th, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #98; it stayed on the chart for three weeks, peaking at #92...
Between 1961 and 1964 the girls had eight Top 100 records, with three reaching the Top 10 and one peaking at #1 {"He's A Rebel" for 2 weeks in 1962}...
The Crystals were fed up with Spector at this stage, and look thoroughly fed up at having to mime this! One of my favourites - the Wall of Sound at its spectacular best!
ОтветитьFor years the background on this song has sounded to me like "He's my big brother." What are the singers really singing?
ОтветитьEVERYTHING on Bandstand was lip sync.
ОтветитьExcuse my ignorance but I was under the impression that this record had a Chuck Berry-style guitar intro. Am i confusing it with another song, or is there an alternative take of this song with such an intro, or did I dream the whole thing?!
ОтветитьI'm afraid the girls couldn't have performed a more static lip synch performance.
ОтветитьBEAUTIFUL SMILE, LALA...
ОтветитьNOBODY CAN TOUCH THIS.....FROM ELVIS TO SLAYER ....THIS IS THE WALL OF SOUND
ОтветитьWHEN THE STRINGS COME IN,MINDBLOWING
ОтветитьHard to believe his was the Crystals' only appearance on Bandstand, considering what a formidable hit-making force they were going back to late 1961. Ironically. 'Little Boy' was a huge comedown chart-wise, only reaching the top 100, after their previous release "Then He Kissed Me' reached #6. It was likely not promoted sufficiently, since Spector was putting most of his efforts toward the Ronettes by mid-1963.
ОтветитьOn this day in 1964 {January 11th} the Crystals performed "Little Boy" on the above episode of the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
Three weeks later it would enter Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #98, the following week it would peak at #92, and on it's third and final week on the Top 100 it was at position #96...
Between 1961 and 1964 the group had eight records on the Top 100 chart, three made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "He's A Rebel", for two weeks in 1962...
Besides "He A Rebel", their other two Top 10 records were "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)" {#3 for 1 week in June of 1963} and "Then He Kissed Me" {#6 for three weeks in September of 1963}...
Thank god this video footage was saved.
ОтветитьHow many people were behind the curtain making all that racket????
And how do I not know this cut?
Phil Spector was a legend. Brilliant. His music will last forever. A shame he lost his mind and killed in a moment of complete madness.
ОтветитьNice
ОтветитьI discovered this on the Phil Spector box-set around 1996. It summed up how my life was at that time. This song, if you swapped the sexes around, was my life then. I had a best friend who I was crazy about, but she never realised my feelings, despite my best efforts. This song never fails to make me cry. It still gets me, for many reasons - the lost chance, plus the sheer brilliance of the song and the production. Spector songs tend to speak directly to my heart and soul - there is just something about them - and this one does this brilliantly.
ОтветитьRaw talent just dripping.
ОтветитьDarlene, what a songbird.
ОтветитьThere is a longer version of this video out there somewhere that includes the interview with Dick Clark at the end. Wish I could find it again.
ОтветитьLala Brooks is so pure, empassioned, so beautiful as lead singer - riveting. I love her.
ОтветитьGreat song, but Spector's production was way too muddy and echo-y.
ОтветитьAmazing
ОтветитьThere is an extended version of this video somewhere that includes an interview with the Crystals at the end. Can you find that? Thanks!
