What size is your saw
ОтветитьNice job. Good explanations and descriptions of the process, and it's nice to see what it's like when a "real" person struggles a bit rather than a pro who does everything perfectly.
ОтветитьInteresting tutorial. A couple of points that I hope are helpful: I think you're missing the point of quarter-sawing. You talk about structural strength, but the main considerations are the shrink-swell characteristics of vertical grain boards, and of course the spectacular visual ray fleck effects you get from wood like oak. Flooring is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of those features of quarter-sawn, as it doesn't cup and won't shrink and swell across its width so much as plain or rift. Same with stair treads. Also, four quarter hardwood scale allows for extra thickness in a green board (for shrinkage) and you probably don't want your green board to be just one inch off the mill. The increments on your mill's scale probably allow for this, plus your kerf. If not, you would do yourself a favor to make or get one that does. And good for you for using Anchorseal! Happy sawing.
ОтветитьGreat info Thanks.
Ответитьcame to see sawmill operation my boy talked for the first 20 minute ran the mill for one pass nd continued to talk more. this vid would be well served it he had used a narration format in the edit process.
ОтветитьFYI.... quartersaw has minimal movement, which is great for furniture. Great video.
Ответитьwhy don't you raise the narrow end so you are cutting parallel with the center line of the log?
ОтветитьHow wide is your lumber mill trailer Sir
ОтветитьJust out of curiosity why do you call a crack a check
ОтветитьThanks a lot for the great demonstration. Very well done.
Ответитьgood vid. my rule of thumb for sealing log ends when cutting down sawlog trees, "the log ends should be sealed before the chain saw is cold".
Ответитьit a pice of sh****
ОтветитьYour quarter scale accounts for the kerf and is much simpler to use than the inch scale if you are cutting boards of those thicknesses. The inch scale does not. If using the inch scale draw up a sheet ahead of time so you don't forget where you were on previous cuts.
ОтветитьQuarter-inch scale already has the 8th inch blade thickness added into it
ОтветитьWhy are you boiling syrup?
ОтветитьPlanning to get a mill as a novice ....... great instructional video, thank you.
Plus I am definitely going to get hydraulic wood handling!
Hey what do u think about this method of cutting boards, basically what iv been doing is cut 1 side off, turn it 180 degrees and then cut the log down untill end with whatever thickness i desire (mainly 20mm and 50mm planks and then later cut the edges off first with circular saw and then through the tabel saw. Iv seen that with this method i get the most out of the log, but on the downside iv noticed that some of the planks tend to twist after either cutting with the bandsaw mill or later with circular saw. Or is it better to just cut a cant and then boards/beams out of that. What do u suggest?
Ответитьbeing liberal(political) with something is being skimpy LOL
ОтветитьThanks for some of the X5 speed video portions.
ОтветитьI would bet that you wish that you had spent a few dollars more and upgraded to the hydraulic dogs and turn motor model.
ОтветитьI’m watching you build a tiny house DIY channel. I thought I knew the guy on tv and it clicked. I watched this video several times to help me with my mill. Kinda cool.
ОтветитьMan that is a cool setup!
Wish I had something like that.
Thanks for the upload.
ОтветитьOrigin or word "cant". Came into use because you can't lift it. Not lots of women in this biz, I presume.
ОтветитьAnd the song that came to mind while watching is !! Who let the dogs out :)
Ответитьget yourself a couple wood wedges for when you lever the log over. It will help keep it in place while you use the dog.
Nice video!!
I would recommend you make your second cut and 180 from the first one, not 90. Especially on big logs while you are by yourself. You wont have to hold the weight of the log and try and dog it if you flip it 180. On your 3 rd cut, you will have flat edges against you backstops and your dogs. after you dog the log in for the 3rd cut, you can put a square on it before you cut to make sure you 90 degrees from the bunk. Plus, the log will weight less with 2 scabs removed so its easier to hold. Just my 2 cents. On a side note, you can buy rulers that already take into account for blade curf. I bought one for cooks sawmill MFG, but im sure lots sell them.
ОтветитьI learned a lot thank you👍
ОтветитьWhat is checking?
ОтветитьYou liked where the orientation of the split on the end was, then you rolled the log and secured it. Did you like where it was KNOWING exactly how much you were going to roll it? That looks like a masterful skill. You never even checked it after rolling the log.. that's awesome. I'm going to tie mine down THEN check it until I've got ten years experience.
Okay . Sarcasm. Kidding. I learned a lot thanks.
Can’t watch all of this !!!! All he was concerned about was checking, there is a lot more to reading a log than checking, checking should have been the first thing to consider when cutting the logs 🤨
ОтветитьI worked in sawmills all my life and i never seen logs turned like this
ОтветитьWhy are you cutting off the checked ends, yes I’d reduces check, but you waste a lot of wood that is still good outside of the check.
ОтветитьOld sawyer, put your stickers at 1 in from the end of your boards and anchor seal the ends, if it checks it will stop at the sticker.
ОтветитьWhy don't you raise the small end to match the height of the center at the large end of your log to maximize material?
ОтветитьOne of the best tutorials I have found. Thank you for making this video!
ОтветитьAwesome explanation of everything you did here. I’m looking into a mill but have no experience other than a little with Alaskan mill. But you explained a ton. Subscribed
ОтветитьBORING,, FFS
ОтветитьThat was a good video thanks
ОтветитьGod bless you, by educating people your showing others the right way to understand the timber trade...
ОтветитьHarbor Freight sells small rubber wheel chocks that would come in very handy for you.
You could use them when turning the log but before you secure the log dogs.
Just a thought. :)
How many cuts can you make before you have to change the blade and how much does a blade cost.
ОтветитьCheck baby check baby 1234, check baby check baby 123 check baby check baby 12 check baby check baby1, all I want to do is a zoom zoom zoom and a boom boom, just saw your wood!!!!!😂
ОтветитьWonderfully instructive--you're a terrific teacher and your use of vocabulary was perfect!
ОтветитьOn a wood mizer it has those marks that takes out for blade thickness so it always comes out rite get a wood mizer.
ОтветитьShow more things and talk less.
ОтветитьThx for sharing
ОтветитьGreat job
