sorry. all the higher notes were pre recorded. she only sang the soft parts and even then lower and soft and wavering... she won by being there. lets just accept the lip synched to a pitch corrected studio recording

It’s been shown to have been prerecorded and pitch corrected……but that’s only to be expected with her illness and the “importance” of the event.

As a life-long, die-hard Lamb, I know what I'm talking about. I called it the second I saw it for it the first time and I was attacked for being honest. I rewatched it a few times and was convinced more each time. There was absolutely no evidence that she was singing. If, IF, she was singing we certainly were NOT hearing it (ie. the mic was NOT on).

The rehearsal clip that I saw was her lipsyncing to the exact same track.

What a cop-out. Why can't you just say it was a total LIP SYNC?

Her vocals have changed. She said in the documentary that she is getting voice breaks and having to change tones etc as the sps is causing the muscles in her stomach and around her vocals to tense so shes had to tweak herself. She is amazing

Sorry folks but this "performance" had Dion miming/"lip-syncing" to a heavily produced prerecorded track and what's even sadder is that the vocals were tampered with; manipulated using 'pitch correction' software .
The music business is mess today with both "artists" and producers to blame for the current dismal state of affairs. Something really must be done to address the wide-scale, wholesale deception that is taking place. What we all witnessed here may have been dismissed as something of a "one-off" (event) in the past a la the now legendary Whitney Houston SuperBowl National Anthem Performance (also faked, the very real beads of facial perspiration notwithstanding) hence viewed through more forgiving lens however , what occurred at the Olympics this night in the rain, on the Eiffel Tower no less, has now come to be considered/accepted as an industry standard. Almost all recordings are undergoing these manipulative voice altering processes with even "live" performances being given the treatment ; subjected to such "corrective" measures either in real time at the concert venue itself through "autotune" installed in the onstage sound system or later in post-production for recorded releases of the "live" performance intended for consumption by the general public.
Truly tragic.

I am not entirely convinced that she is singing to a pre-recorded track in the rehearsal. The recording (made with a poor device and in the rain) picks up both: her natural voice as heard without the mic (as if she was in the room without a mic and somebody 10 meters away would be recording her) and what is coming out of loudspeakers. This makes it sound as if she is singing along. In fact, you can hear her only when she is singing louder so that this person's phone can even pick up her natural voice from a distance. As for the difference in the pitch raised by Georgina - this could be just the result of poor recording. When I make a simple recording of me playing the piano and place my camera a couple of meters away, the sound is deformed and even a person with an absolute pitch can be confused about the key. Recording, however, on the same device music that comes through loudspeakers at a concert doesn't cause this problem. Ordinary cameras pick up the sounds transmitted through loudspeakers very well. This is why it may sound as if there were two different notes sung here.

Guys, even Aretha Franklin was pitch corrected on her last album (The Classics) and even if Celine needed a bit of technical help, give her that moment of triumph! The woman has been through so much. We all get older and our senses (accurate hearing is essential for accurate singing) DO deteriorate whether we like it or not. Celine is 56 and suffered enough......let her heal and steal (the show)!

Excuse me but singing for nobody to a pre recorded track that eclipses her imperfect human voice is not singing live. Don't fool people, Celine is lying to everyone and doesn't deserve any respect from fooling the whole world. Stop complimenting her looks as well, as if by doing so she compensated her fakeness. This is not perfect at all, she didn't lived up to the expectations because she didn't show authenticity in this acting performance. She is a modern Pinocchio and you are lauding her for that, which is like applauding a child for cheating in a math's test. Queens wear diamonds, not circonites pretending to be diamonds. She is not living up to her talent here. DISAPPOINTING.

You are a vocal coach and you cannot tell that what you hear is a studio recording and pitch corrected. She might even be singing but you are not hearing her voice but the studio recording.

You totally got the point. I've sat right behind the sound control once and I was able to see how they manage the pre-recorded tracks: she sings normally in a lower key and just mutes and lipsyncs during the big hignotes. I also noticed that she only lipsyncs the old songs, the new ones she sings 100% live.

I don't like this side of Ivory and divine she can be sick that her voice is less powerful. Tbf, in the final dress rehearsal singers often choose not to hit the high notes in order to preserve their voice for the opening night. This is very common In opera, and Celine is absolutely up there with those divas.

The bad thing is not to have a pre-recorded performance, wich we would have understood in such circumstances (it would not be the first time), but the fact that her voice has been horribly pitch correccted with Melodyne. The one who has done this should be sued

I did watch her documentary not long before seeing this perfornance. I totally understand why you cannot watch it, as it could be very triggering .I have to say, the documentary showed exactly what she has been living with, and watching her perform this, I just broke down, knowing how she had not been able to perform for so long, and that performing and her public are everything to her, the lyrics she was singing took on a whole new power, (translated fro French) '' But if you love me, if you love me, nothing else matters to me.'' She is iconic.

Many of the accusations and counter-accusations come from failing to distinguish answers to different questions. As a law dean, I am very particular about the questions asked and the answers given. Wings of Pegasus accuses Celine Dion and her managers of FRAUD. That is a very big accusation. If I were Celine Dion I would be suing this man. Here are the questions: (1) Did Celine Dion sing at the conclusion of the Opening Program of the Paris Olympics? Answer: She did. (2) Was her rendition of Hymne a L'Amour recorded in a music studio and mechanically manipulated? Answer: Possibly. (3) When she climbed to the first tier of the Eiffel Tower to belt out her song, did the audience both in Paris and worldwide hear Celine Dion's voice? Answer: They did! (4) Was she actually singing at the Eiffel Tower? Answer: There is no doubt that she was. (5) Was what the people heard --- both the audience in Paris and her worldwide audience -- the pre-recording or her actual singing? Answer: Possibly the pre-recording. (6) Was this fraud? Answer: NO IT WAS NOT. To constitute fraud, Celine Dion should have held out to the people that what they were hearing at the time her voice was amplified and telecast and broadcast was her actual singing at the Eiffel Tower. She MADE NO SUCH claim. That was a conclusion people drew on their own. (7) Was this the same as lip-synchi -ing? Answer: No, it was not. To Lip-synch is to go through the motions of singing. Celine Dion did not go through to motions of singing. She was actually singing. Perhaps if issues could be parsed, and more careful analysis could be made, we would be less prone to brazen accusations like those made by Wings of Pegasus whose musical credentials he has yet to establish.

I mean it was recorded in a studio and digitally altered
It's the producers who should be critiqued

Of course she was lip-synching, using vocal tracks from several years ago (probably from her 2015 AMA performance + rehearsals + she may have recorded it back then just to practice) that have been heavily pitch corrected 1/ you can hear it, 2/ you can see it 3/ Olympics singing performances have always been in playback and it's been like this for 40 years, 4/ it was raining, there was wind, this creates sounds that should have been captured if the microphone was on, but we hear none of that, 5/ Céline is no longer capable to sing like that, even before her illness took over she was already struggling to hold long notes so perfectly live (and that's completely normal, she's not 25 anymore, we it's no longer 1995) 6/ with her illness it's simply impossible for her to sing like that and it will never come back. Nevertheless, she gave a stunning theatrical performance and it was perfect as a show for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, well done Céline!

In one of the videos, Celine is rehearsing at 3am. after midnight. It makes sense that it doesn't sound perfect.But the video of her performance that aired was live. This was also confirmed by the music producer of the program.
