I LOVED this video! Very clear and informative. As a South African, I like that you also show when SA does things wrong or doesn't get penalised when they should, especially in a video showing referee errors. And I especially loved the clip of Eben's understanding and try against Harlequins. Well done, keep up the good work.

I just checked quickly on google and you can't play quickly a penalty within 10 meters. Is this right?

Every time you confuse malignity with deep stupidity. There is no "grand plan" to do people brown, it's just incompetence. But hey, don't let me interrupt the paranoia.

I wonder how long until you are called by the IRB to rate their refs or be asked to send videos for incidents in games.

I would like to compliment the team members who put this detailed analysis together. It show cases that refs do not always get it right and as a result cost teams games. Hopefully the respective refs are watching these fantastic educational videos and learn from their costly mistakes.

It won't be long before players are shouting "he's not bound ref check the video" as they run around the back of the ruck to pick the ball up. Rugby has lost its way.

I don't think it's the rules that are that complicated, I honestly think some of these refs are completely incompetent and that the video ref should be the final say in any play. Refs will makes mistakes on the field, the game is fast and they can't see everything but there are so many issues in every game that I'll only watch the WC as it's once every 4 years. Rugby is alienating its current supporters and is not a game I encouraged my son to play, even though it was the only sport I played seriously as a youngster. The video ref was introduced to get rid of bad calls but if the ref on the field is still the 'boss' then this has no real value. It's a mess.

As an American who watches Rugby, and I'm fairly new to it, this is my first year watching, in the NFL we have a lot of refs on the field. Have WR ever explained why they don't (or won't) employ backfield refs? The first break down of the refs not doing their job looking at the AR players lined up offsides, to my American eye is the exact reason why they should have backfield refs.

Anyways, love this channel, I have learned a lot of watching videos here the past couple of months, thanks for the hard work you do.

Sure, but Rugby Union as a game is a mess. No longer interested. What someone who is used to watching Football or other straightforward sports thinks of this sorry technical mess is easy. Most people don't give a shit. It is a WEIRD minority sport played by the elite and the ruling classes. Fuck it

It seems that players have to play according to the ref and not the rules. There are far to many rules with grey areas. Understanding that rules are put in place to ensure fairness, safety and have the game flowing. Can you blane the ref or the rules. Only if you yourself have reffed a game do you know it is NOT easy. Simplify the rules.

and he is a selected RWC ref? I know of at least 3 black referees in South Africa that will make this incompetent ref cry when it comes to applying the rules correctly. World Rugby has serious problems not since yesterday but for a few years now but sitting on their fat arses doing nothing we have this situation.

This "Unveiling" is not a very fair reflection on referees at all. I also ref rugby matches and always do a perfect job. Its the players that make us Referees look bad. Especially teams like the Springboks, who excel at fowl play to the point of manipulating the refereeing directly and indirectly. The Springboks are not World-champs they are World-cheats...there is a big diffrence. Referees are good innocent people with good harts only doing their job.

@x2y3a1j5 - 16.10.2023 18:25

Argie here, rugby fan but no rugby expert, so pardon my naivety/stupidity: Could it be possible that most of these bad referees' decisions (all of the referees, not just Andrew Brace) stem from "letting players play and do not interrupt the game so often"?

It's also very easy to watch everything at slow speed and in a large screen from our sofas, but being on the field and having to make split-seconds decisions is very difficult. Imagine a World Cup game or a 6N or a 4N game where the referee is calling every. single. infringement. Wouldn't we all be whining about how come that evil referee ruined the game?

So let's be honest here: YES, some referees need to take refreshers courses and be shown when and how they made the wrong calls, etc. BUT, we're all human beings bc we're not perfect like the robots. Errors WILL happen in every single match and are part of the game. It's no different from when out teams wrongfully decide to go for a LO and try to score a try rather than taking a kick with 3 points. Now, being biased is a very different thing, here we're talking just about mistakes, not biases.

No ref , of course can be 100% accurate and so makes mistakes and so it is up to World Rugby ref tzar o pick this up and rate the refs on their integrity. Andrew’s is below average and he needs remedial work to bring him up to par. Overall he is worth working on.
