I planted Vinca for the first time last year and boy did they live up better than I expected. I cannot wait to plant more this year.

ОтветитьI love my Vincas mines comes back every year!
ОтветитьI planted some pink Pentas last summer here in central FL zone 9b and they haven’t stopped blooming since - all through winter and now spring, still going strong.
ОтветитьThanks Jim for sharing your knowledge and awesome garden! I was wondering where you got the small yellow bird house shown around minute 17-18 of this video?
ОтветитьLove vinca and pentas, they are the best for July and August in zone 10a
ОтветитьI just noticed how the fence is cut out around those rocks, looks awesome. It looks like a Dr. Seuss fence.
ОтветитьJim that was a good shot of your house when you all was on the street planting Vinca , the house is beautiful.
ОтветитьThe garden is looking so beautiful! I look forward to seeing the patio install.
ОтветитьI keep my Vitex in a bush form but limbed up from base. Now I have a nice screen from my neighbors house across the st. I pulled off a ton of suckers this am.
ОтветитьThe palm tree looks good.
ОтветитьBeautiful!
ОтветитьI love white in my garden!
ОтветитьReally like your channel. I've learned a lot about shrubs. I live in So Cal, zone 10a; not near the beach. I've had the same vincas in the ground for at least 5 yrs now, and they are just phenomenal! I bought them from H. Depot. They have never reseeded, completely drought and heat tolerant. Pest free. They bloom all year, not exaggerating. Didn't even think to fertilize them. I give them a trim, once, maybe twice a year. Great plant, in my opinion. Haven't grown them from seed yet, but I will try it.
ОтветитьExcited about better boxwoods. Just ordered six of the Renaissance because I needed something short/small for my bed between two retaining walls. If those work out as hoped, I have my eye on two large boxwoods on the side of my house that I have never liked. Babylon Beauty would be perfect to replace those. Wintergreen boxwood has always been my favorite, but my word....they can get pretty large.
ОтветитьJim, Steph,
Looks like Holly's ya'all's foreman. 😉
Thank you, Jim! 😊
ОтветитьWhite flowers dotted in is a design trick to calm down many different colors together ("clown college design") and make such a design more cohesive and less chaotic looking. ( In interior design, it's black and white together that has the same effect on tying together many colors.)
ОтветитьWhat was the blue evergreen at around the 22 min mark when you were talking about the ground cover sedum?
ОтветитьYour garden spaces are looking beautiful! Your neighbors are fortunate to have such a lovely view.
ОтветитьI totally agree about white plants I learned this I think last year when I had a lot of color but it just missed a pop and I also have turned to White blooms in my house for holidays or whatever just goes with everything and very classic.
Ответить🙋
ОтветитьOmg, I just noticed you cut the fence around the rocks, LOVE IT!
ОтветитьTonight I ll be planting perennials and Pentas… exciting time of the year.
ОтветитьYour garden is looking absolutely amazing!!
Your aggressive sedum looks like it might be Sedum tetractinum (Coral Reef sedum) or some cultivar of that species. It can cover a lot of ground when its happy. 🙂
I wish we could get the soil cube deliveries here in podunk (nc coast).
ОтветитьYes we in south are now on crunch to get stuff in asap thanks so much You two!!! Judy in pensacola fl ❤❤
ОтветитьI’m a big fan of chartreuse and white flowers here in the Pacific Northwest. They stand out when we’re in the dark part of the year.
ОтветитьBeautiful! Love all the varieties in your garden Jim & Steph 🌳🌳🌳🐕
ОтветитьI always wonder if Jim is like the Liver King of horticulture. One of these days someone will expose him for those synthetic fertilizers! lol
ОтветитьI have a yard full of Vinca Major or “periwinkle”, which is an invasive plant here in Southern BC. It is so bad, we mow it with our lawnmower. It is growing on the forest floor and was here when we bought the property 3 years ago. It will take me years to get rid of it. Hard too, because it is so pretty! But it is on the invasive plant list, so it has to go.
ОтветитьSteph, could you tell me where I might find another Jim Putnam, please?!!?😂
ОтветитьWhat fertilizer might you use IF you do fertilize annuals in June?
ОтветитьI always love when you say “clown college”. 😂 Thanks for always giving fun and unpretentious quality content. ❤
ОтветитьThank you for the inspiration to garden and to move things if they don’t do well somewhere.
ОтветитьIt’s nice to see you again Stephany ! 🌷💚🙃
ОтветитьHi Steph and Jim,
In New Zealand, we have impatiens that are similar to vincas.
It looks like the closest plant to vincas are periwinkle, which can be invasive in our country.
Vincas have more varieties of colours and are deep saturated purples and pinks.
Our impatiens are mainly white, apricot and red and hold their water in their square stems, so not much need for water.
I saw another gardener tie her tulip and daffodil foliage, by using the leaves to tie into a loop......no twine needed, instead of cutting it back.
I thought this was a clever and tidy way of waiting for the foliage to die back and made room to plant annuals.
Jo.😊
To me when white flowers die they look worse than when the colored flowers die. 🌷💚🙃
ОтветитьThank You!!!!! I love white flowers and my husband says “not white “,because it doesn’t stand out.🙄
ОтветитьAlways enjoy seeing Steph in the videos.
Ответитьdang i never seen a sedum have problems.
ОтветитьWhite flowers truly do stand out. I love the white vinca with the pink center, plus white zinnias & daisies dotted around. ❤
ОтветитьI’ve got a white native Virgin’s Bower clematis on order to relocate and replace a dark purple clematis. The purple was always backlit by sun so the blooms didn’t stand out viewing it further back from the patio. The paler blooms and foliage on anything do stand nicely out in my dappled shade. 🇨🇦
ОтветитьI have a golden falls redbud like yours, planted in the fall last year - it looks great in the morning but tends to get wilty leaves in the afternoon. Should I be worried?
ОтветитьI had not really given much thought to vinca but I am now. I also like your thoughts on fertilizing. Your yard is really quite beautiful.
ОтветитьI heard vinca and thought you guys were removing vinca vine from the beds lol. My neighbors vinca vine escaped their yard and is now rapidly moving towards...everywhere else.
Vinca is hard for me to grow from seed! I dont use heat mats though.
When i tree formed my dappled willow like 3/4 months ago, i look at it now and it has become a bush again lol.
My neighbor has planted chindo sweet viburnums short 3ft of my fence. In the last several weeks I applied a heavy dose of prodiamine pre emergent to my bermuda grass and now he has leaves fallen off the tree. Is it possible that the prodiamine is affecting his chindo's?
ОтветитьAt last your garden makes sense to me. The well defined paths and beds make the picture clear.
