How Muslims rationally understood Miracles | Safiyyah Sabreen

Miracles are an integral part of Islam. How did classical Muslim scholars understand miracles? In our time we encounter statements like "miracles are beyond reason", "miracles cannot be understood" etc from Muslims. Interestingly, the attitude of early Muslims especially from the Islamic Intellectual period was the complete opposite of this. The Islamic civilization was unique in harmonizing religion and reason. So definitely the phenomenon of miracles was no exception to this discussion. Muslims wrote extensively on the nature of space, time, causality and discussed the possibility of anomalous events in this scheme, providing one of the most profound and rational explanation of miracles.
