A 45 years old male was involved in a family fight and one of his relatives kicked him on his chest, shortly after that he became unconscious and then he was brought to emergency department for treatment. But he succumbed to his injuries after 45 min of admission.
Patient was on medication for Diabetes and hypertension.
Then his body for sent autopsy and the relative who kicked him was booked for murder under section. 302 IPC
On external examination, no injuries were found on the body.
On opening chest cavity, there were also no signs of injury.
On examination of heart, it was found to be enlarged and the weight was around 450 grams. And there were also e/o few white color patches which indicates that previously he had pericarditis.
After dissection of coronary arteries, left circumflex artery was found to be thickened and calcified with 90% blockage. And a metallic stent was found in left anterior descending artery.
Final opinion regarding cause of death was given as: coronary artery disease (CAD) and its complications.

Determining whether or not the alleged assault appears to have caused myocardial infarction is the responsibility of the forensic pathologist.
When opining about the cause of death and whether the myocardial infarction is related to the damage received in the claimed incident, autopsy surgeons should proceed with extreme caution.
This will significantly influence the severity of the punishment imposed on the accused.
This instance shows that even in cases when there are not any clinically evident chest injuries, people with a history of coronary artery disease are susceptible to fatal severe chest trauma.
