I’m an MSF coach for over 10 years, I thought some of these techniques, particularly push/pull from the front, were my little secret. Damn, gutted….

Used my Paddock stand first time today. Absolutely, the bike wanted to stay up during setup and lift. The whole process was much easier than I expected.

Thank you mate some really good advise here. Definitely going to try moving around from the front. Its strange to think part of being a proficient motorcyclist starts without even getting on the bike. Ha Ha. Cheers.

Great video, I am a smaller rider and will try these techniques. My friend used to have a Katana some years back and he used to turn it in his garage while it was on the center stand, chewed up the concrete floor a bit but it works.

I just did the sidestand pivot for the first time after watching this video. Took a couple of changes on hand placement for the grip to feel strong but once the equilibrium point was felt, it pivoted smoothly. Great video

I use a small coaster with 3 small wheels (available in NZ and Aust from Bunnings) at a cost of less than $15, placed under the side stand it allows my wife to move her BMW R9T whilst it is sitting safely on the side stand, and turn the bars fully each way to turn it around in the garage. It has given her a lot more confidence about moving the bike around next to other bikes and our cars.

One thing I don't recommend, that I;ve seen people do, even at the service shop, is pivot the whole bike, 180 degrees, on the sidestand. On a supersports or others, you snap off your side stand, and you are in an absolute world of hurt.
Think about that.

Great tips, thank you.
Quick note for any old BMW owners: I had a '73 R75 with no sidestand, I used to spin it on one side of the centre stand, but after about a year doing it twice a day, it sheared off the mounting bolts... 😮

I certainly wouldn't recommend spinning a bike around on a side stand, especially a heavy tourer like I have, 300lb in weight, aluminium frame and side stand. If the frame cracks, you have a big problem.

If you are short it’s worth investing in a pair of platform stripper shoes to enable you to reach the floor and paddle the bike around 😂.

The sharing your experience with us is sincerely appreciated. Thank you.

When you mention putting a scoot on a scale but needing to hold it gently in it's balance (so as not to influence it's weight on the scale), is something I do to check oil level through a sight glass indicator. The side stand is on the opposite side, so kneeling or even sitting at ground level, pulling the bike just off the side stand to true vertical has become a simple thing to do. The challenge of getting it to just vertical using a gentle touch can be likened to any other precision endeavor from golf to operating a lift truck/forklift. Cheers from the western U.S.

I grab my bike by the front and reverse it down a ramp out of my front door. Way easier to move the bike around and I have a finger over the brake lever while its going down the ramp to stop it from running away from me. Great video and I bet it helps a lot of people.

Do Not Try spinning your bike around on the sidestand if the sidestand is attached to the engine case (like the Ducati shown). Unless you want a cracked engine case!
