ОтветитьAs far as I know (correct me if I am wrong) - minor allowance for wigs was given in times they were as ugly as a mop. Even at this time (hundreds of years ago) wigs were not recommended and also forbidden by other hal. authorities.
The wig has become a tool of assimilation to gather followers/sect-adherents/paying members in secular/uneducated circles as well as to appease the nations in galuth.
a tichel, then, would be an item of fashion choice, consistent with halacha, but not necessary since one doesn't have to completely cover all their hair.

ОтветитьHe doesn't pasken according to gedolei yisrael as most allow wigs. They may not be worn long, over the shoulder bone or too conspicuously. May I add that many women wearing very attractive head scarves are also very alluring. Daas Torah means according to gedolei yisrael.

ОтветитьI have done some more surfing ok n the met and find that this Rav has many points of difference with generally held views. Since he is clearly bright honest and a true Torah Jew I have to say a bracha at having encountered his ideas, and then follow my teachers.
Sparks of Torah fly in many directions. A talmid should only sit at the feet of one school.

ОтветитьI agree with the Rabbi, and I can add some more informations: Hairs and nails are impure parts from a body... A wig can be made with hair from a woman that died after donation of the hair, and this pratice is wrong... a wig is a impure object, like nails, because when its removed from the body, it become impure...
ОтветитьI don't get the reasoning. Its a obligation to cover the hair whether drayysa or Drabbunun. By putting on a wig they fulfill the obligation. True it violates the spirit of the law but its not better to not cover than conver with a wig. And if Drabbunun one might disagree with the spirit of the law anyway m

ОтветитьWow this rabbi thinks the same way as me in so many ways. I guess it is to do with his focus on trying to objectively look at truth and what the torah says, with less of a priority on what people do.

ОтветитьThe rationale of halachos related to modesty should serve to obscure the aspects of her beauty. Therefore synthetic hair that is tailored specifically to emulate attractive hair defeats the purpose why a woman would cover her hair in the first place. The same logic can be applied to women wearing skin tight skirts. I am not forcing judgement on anybody, but if you are going to dress modestly do it according to halacha.

ОтветитьRabbi my wife wears a wig. We both grew up non religious and are Baal Tsuvah. She is much more religious than I am. I would like to tell her about this but I am sorely unqualified to explain this to her. Can you break down the argument for those who are not as religiously astute as you are?

ОтветитьIsn't it interesting that Ashkenazi chareidim (who people assume are "more religious") generally wear wigs while Sefardim and religious zionists, and modern orthodoxy cover their heads with hats or scarves. Who among the orthodox is "more religious" is very subjective. And being stricter (covering every strand of hair with a wig) is not necessary more observant.
