I've Never Made a Video About This Sin Before

Yesssss I’ve been saying this lately, that nobody talks about this! Thank you for making this video, brother Allen.

I address in my church as to many addictions, disorders, and vices that we put first before God.

I actually have dreams that I'm going through a buffet and have this huge, amazing plate of food I'm ready to dig into, and I wake up, then try desperately to fall back asleep because I'm missing out. Yikes!!

Oh my this is my struggle I eat too many deserts too many watermelon popsicles I keep asking the lord help me with self control I should be going to the lord not using watermelon popsicles to feel better so thank you for this video

Even before I started this video, I hollered out Gluttony! I taught a Biblical Health Class for a few years. The Lord had spoke to me years ago saying, "You will speak! You will speak! My people are dying! They idolize food above Me!" Then the Lord gave me a vision on morbidly obese Christians going through a buffet line, piling their plates high with food. Tears flowed back onto my pillow, I felt God's broken heart. I've struggled with my own sugar addiction but the Lord helped me lay it down on the alter. Too many Christians joke about overeating, minimize this Sin area to their own destruction. Many pastors are overweight so never preach on it because that would be hypocritical. Our last pastor wove an inspired health message when he was on a health regime, but when he fell off, oopsie, not so much! Putting anything above worshipping God IS Idolatry. I wrote a book about Food Idolatry also which helped my students. Jesus died to set us free from being enslaved to Sin, and that includes Gluttony. Thank you for this podcast message. I clicked on this video not knowing that God was about to confirm what I'd known in my heart for a while now -- that my eating habits are not pleasing to Him. Thank you Allen for talking about this and more importantly for leading by example and demonstrating how we can and should be honest with ourselves about even the most overlooked and subtle sins in our lives.

Like on Thanksgiving

I am grateful to say that I am a born again Christian and have been since I was 19.......folks if you don’t know Christ as your savior then it burdens my soul to think that you are headed for a terrible place called Hell where the Bible says the fire is never quenched and the worm dies not! Folks you are not promised tomorrow! If you want to know how to be saved from this horrible reality then please by all means don’t hesitate to comment right back so I can lead you to the savior! 2 Corinthians 6:2 clearly states “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation!” And Hebrews 3:15 clearly states, “Today if you hear his voice don’t harden your hearts! It is not me but the Holy Spirit that I pray reveals to you the truth of his precious gospel......John 3:16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes on him will not perish but have everlasting life! V 17 says then V 18 says whoever believes on the son is not condemned but whoever does not believe on the son is condemned already because he has not believed on the son whom God has sent! Also Acts 16:30-31 what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house I am not threatening anyone but just warning them what will happen if they reject this precious gift of eternal life! Christ died a horrible criminals death! He was beaten brutally mocked spit upon and endured countless hours of torture pain for all of our sins! Ppl go to hell because they reject that pardon for their sins! And Jesus is saying to them in Matthew 25:41 depart from me you cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! Hell was only prepared for Satan and his angels! It is not God who threatens anyone it is the craziness of rejecting the free pardon of salvation! It’s like if you’re in court you’ve committed a crime say you murdered someone! Now if you say to that Judge hey I know I’ve done a terrible thing of murdering that person but I hear you’re a good judge and so I know you’ll be fair to me...... the judge is going to reply well yes you’re right about one thing I am a good judge and because I’m a good judge I’m going to see to it that you’re punished and that justice is served! Well then all of a sudden someone you don’t even know comes forward and says you know what I know he’s committed the crime he’s committed and he deserves to go to jail but I really don’t want to see him go to prison so I’ll just go to prison for him so he can go free! So if you accepted that offer you’d be free to leave the courtroom but if you didn’t well you’d be crazy and go to prison yourself! Well that’s exactly how it was 2,000 years ago! He is God in human flesh and he came to this earth lived a perfect sinless life and even though he knew that we had sinned and because of our sins deserved to die miserably but he said no I don’t want to see them suffer so I will go and take their punishment for them! Even though he did absolutely nothing wrong still he chose to take the punishment for our sins so we can be set free from the power bondages and consequences of our disobedience to God! Romans 5:8 says For God commends his love toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us! 1 John 2:2 says he was made to be the propitiation for our sins! And not just for our sins but the sins of the whole world! 2 Corinthians 5:21 He who knew no sin became Sin for us that we would be made his righteousness! The truth is if you had to get to Heaven by your own effort then you cannot do it! Because Romans 3:10 says there is not one that does good! No Not One! Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death! But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our lord! But the good news is Romans 10:9 If we confess with our mouth and believes in our hearts that Christ died for our sins then was raised from the dead we will be saved! V 10 For it’s with the heart we believe and it’s with the mouth confession is made unto salvation! God gave us 10 commandments to follow and we’ve broken every one of them! And because God is a good God he cannot allow our disobedience to him to go unpunished! Well then like I just mentioned above his son Jesus stepped forward and said no I don’t want to see them punished so I will take their punishment for them! And also like I said he died a terrible substitute criminal’s death for us on a cross so now all we have to do is accept that payment for our sins and we can escape the terrible wrath of God that is to fall on them who do not accept this atonement that was sacrificed for our sins! Praise the lord Romans 10:13 says Whoever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved! And 1 Peter 1:4 you’re an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you! Christ clearly said in John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the father but through me! Acts 4:12 clearly states that there is no other name given unto Heaven or earth by which we must be saved as there is salvation in no other! Jesus clearly states that there is clearly only one way to Salvation and it’s him that’s it! There is no other way! God Bless everyone who reads!

Right on! Thank you so much for touching this huge issue that we all face, more than any other desires! Many of my Christian friends told me that there would be no fun if eating is out of their lives. I think you should add the word 'gluttony' in the subject, I bet you'll gain more views and can reach more people because most of us struggle with it but it's never discussed according to the Bible, amen!

I want to fellowship, but the food thing is always stressful. The idea of having food at every gathering is not in the Bible. It's just tradition and people are so judgy about it. No one I know is starving. If anything, Americans need to work on fasting. The scripture is our food.

I needed this one and yes I have heard sermons on this before! Dealing with this right now! That thinking about what I’m gonna eat next…oh my, the Lord still deals with me on that. Yes Lord! I love You LORD FOR YOUR FAITHFULNESS! I think that we (me too! 🙋🏽‍♀️) lean too much on food for comfort & even entertainment. The Lord Jesus has given me strategy, but I can’t wait to hear yours! I have a gluttony issue but I workout to like balance it. I work out knowing I’ll go hard on the weekend and eat until I feel sick. It’s a way to comfort myself and an alternative to alcohol.
It’s bad.
I see a therapist.
I’m glad more Christian’s are discussing this.

How about the biblical injunction to join the 'clean plate club'? haha.
But in all seriousness, I think this sin type and the 'discussion point' is difficult because of all the angles we have to discern it (sort of like addressing modesty). People may be- as many have mentioned here- dealing with a lust/pride issue in many ways that dont get reflected by first impressions (either impression of sin present or impression of not a struggle). I wondered about the excesses of our culture [I think gluttony is about excess consumption or holding to comfort of all types, whether available or just wished for]: for example, where you go to restaurants, and people over-order or load their plate and don't finish most of it;; or maybe they do. I do have a propensity to try to eat what I order, maybe to a fault on the other end of the sin specturm.

I love food, and looking at this video is somehow making me hungry, lol, but we can easily slip into over-eating: getting fast food everyday, spending excessively on food, being wasteful, eating an excess amount of unhealthy foods, etc. Man... I've been in all these places.

I've learned to really enjoy cooking and playing with recipes from the food God has provided for us through the trees and ground. Taking a different mindset towards food takes effort. Pray about it, look up healthier recipes, and try not to keep unhealthy foods in the house...BUT there is nothing wrong with treating yourself time to time. Control is key. Healthy food CAN taste good, too.

My pastor mentions gluttony often. He even mentioned it during this year's community Thanksgiving service.

Excellent message, Brother Parr! Gluttony is definitely something I struggle with; I'm overweight but not obese and I have a sweet tooth like nobody's business. I especially love chocolate! Two difficulties I have regarding overeating; first, I definitely eat when I'm bored. And when you live in a colder climate and are sometimes stuck inside due to the weather, you get bored often. I'm working on distracting myself more with hobbies or chats with friends or reading but I get bored of those sometimes as well. The other difficulty: so much of socializing revolves around food. Almost any time I'm meeting a friend, it's over lunch or dinner or coffee. Even if we're getting together for a non-eating event like a movie or a walk in the park or a trip to a specific store, we usually eat before or after. It makes my brain associate good times with food and causes me to crave food even more.

Many years ago I adopted the “eat when you’re hungry (true hunger) and stop when you’re full (not miserable) and I lost weight without changing anything else. Sadly I fell off that wagon. Emotional eating is SUCH a stronghold for many of us and we medicate without even thinking of what we are doing. I will strive to be more intentional about curbing this behavior. It’s a new day every day to make a new choice even when the day before just didn’t work out. ❤ all this, pastor. It was such a needed reminder.

Self-control through the power of the Holy Spirit is needed for this as well as other sins. Your presentation is one that we can all relate to. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink. I don’t watch porn. I don’t cheat on my husband. But I love to eat! And sometimes I remember that there’s one of my favorite snacks back there in that pantry and I just get up and go get it and I’m not even hungry! So, yes, this video was for me. I’m so grateful for this video. I have been praying for my friend who struggles with this a lot but after watching this I realised I too need to improve my attitude to food which I often see as comfort.
