Burnt out? Don't like the heat? It's your fault. Let me explain: People had their time to dismiss toxic politics in games years ago and ignore it. That time is over BECAUSE people refused to stop it, and the cancer has become terminal. It's not a few games we can ignore, it's literally the ENTIRE industry, who have illegal hiring practices, so the new people are incompetent and obnoxious. You have to make the entire company go bankrupt now to fix it. You like these politics? Too bad, the hiring practices means these games are trash regardless. The exact timeline here is gamergate 1, which didn't fix the corruption, so these people moved to SWEET BABY INC, which we have moved past into firing the DEI dept and implementing "BRIDGE" where the employees do the job of the DEI team. IDGAF if you don't like it, or do like it but dislike the game quality. You don't have the option to sit on the fence. Sure you can try, but every single second you do nothing these games get worse, and it's your fault for fence sitting. There will be NO return to normalcy until everyone puts their foot down and stops buying garbage, and that means entire companies going bankrupt, because that's how infested they are. Woke cultists are going to flip out over the election and push their narrative twice as hard. I can sympathize with the sentiment of leave me alone, but I won't, because this will not go away by ignoring it, and if you weren't already ignoring it you would have known it was coming.

Here's what's gonna happen: You will burn out and delete social media from fence sitting. Period. Full stop. Nobody likes a fence sitter, your games will get worse. Or you could not fence sit, and help fix the problem. Your choice. The days of fence sitting are over. It doesn't matter if you quit reading comments, every woke game you buy funds the degradation of game quality. THEY DON'T HIRE COMPETENT PEOPLE. This is 100% guaranteed going to make you quit. The comment section is the reflection of the content creator. Here are a few content creators that have great comment sections: The Sphere Hunter, King K, Jacob Gueler, and Noah Caldwell. Do you know why? They don't post reactionary content and just focus on the games. Of course, Asmongold comment section is shit, look at what he's posting. It's slop content to get mad at, of course, his audience will act like that. From the other side of the spectrum, I understand what you are saying, but you cannot be surprised when you left the door open for roaches.

You know how you get more acceptance for trans characters in games? Make them act like a normal person that also happens to deal with trans issues sometimes. Just don't make being trans be their entire identity. Unfortunately, this is also something that happens with some people irl, making them devoid of any real personality.

I just watched Asmon's reaction to this and I had to jump over here and comment. I agree 100%. I cover these convos and topics and such over on my channel, and I always try to steelman each side. Benefit of the doubt and such. Do I fall into the "low hanging fruit trap" sometimes? Of course. But I try to have real conversations about this stuff. I even brought in a co-host on my show to facilitate conversation. And yet, I can't seem to get any channel traction because I don't take the extreme position of either side. It either has to be the worst thing ever, or the best thing ever. If you try to give credit where it's due to either side, you just get rejected whole sale. I hate it so much. I really enjoy content creation and talking about these things but I don't see my channel making it big or whatever because I just feel gross staring into the abyss of either side.

Damn, nuance? Really? In this day and age? I thought it was an impossibility.

Absolutely wild to think this is a fresh take on the gaming industry but thank you for speaking up.

The answer here is simple, make good games, with good story, no excessive monetization, and no woke liberal politics in them. Until that happens my wallet stays closed. No one wants to play a game where they are lectured on someones made up pronouns, and no one cares about representation. If you want representation make your own character in the character creator.

Our entertainment is a freakin mess right now... I mean common... look at what they've done to Lara Croft... Everyone knows what that IP stands for and what the brand is. How is it that anyone from young to old knows, but the devs/writers/producers etc don't? What a massive disgrace... This is happening to everything from cartoons, games, movies, card and board games, comics etc... I'm tired of all this. Now with how mad everyone is over this I honestly think no matter how well they write a gay character or whatever issue they want to tackle, everyone is just immediately going to go IT'S WOKE. I don't blame them though because it's just a pattern that's been slapped at us for a good 10 years, ESPECIALLY the last 5. It went too far when they retconned all our fan favorite characters and franchises. You can't forgive that. I'm at the point where I just want all these companies/studios to fail so we can move on. Let a new company buy the IPs and give us what we want.

Feel this way with identity politics in games. I don't agree with the nonbinary, trans, or even the modern idea of "gender" over one's sex. I am in the situation where the people around me feel comfortable to put identity on a speaker phone and I have to just shut up constantly or it's problematic and causes arguments. I like the people otherwise, but It's like I can't disagree without being Satan basically. Forget being called a Phobe or whatever, it's always the equivalent of being called their version of Satan. An enemy that they will have 0 common ground with instead of someone that just doesn't hold the same views or can come to understand their world of magnifying identity to such a degree that it is worshipped.

Brother I'm sorry people come at you sideways about this stuff, from what I've seen veilgaurd is not a game made for me I don't like the writing from what I've seen and I never really got into any of the Dragon Age gameplay, but that doesn't make you a bad dude for finding things to like about it. If people really want to attack the game all they have to do is not buy or vice-versa if they want to support it they shouldn't be sandwiching you between the bullshit because you have a nuanced view

I do my best to not watch channels that do too much of the "grifting" youre talking about and gravitate towards the people that dont do that. Asmongold was right when he said he thinks thats why people watch him. Thats why I watch him. You were right when you said a lot of us feel like that and we need to stop rewarding the people that are always pumping the bellows. So thats why I'm here now. The Athens governments--the government that practically invented democracy--had a lot of pros. Because everyone participated in politics, everyone felt engaged and happy to contribute. It also introduced the golden age of philosophy, critical thought, and debate. However, that type of government also introduced a new evil: mob mentality. People voted to kill people for no concrete reason, ostracized from their city-states, and emotions led decisions.

You can find this exact same result with the internet. When the internet was born, it gave speech back to the people. Suddenly, information was distilled to the masses not seen since the printing press; debates were held on every topic; news at everyone's finger tips, and new thought formed. People had a voice, and they felt engaged, and able to make change. However, as time went on, the long-known evil returned: mob mentality. Now, through emotion, we can effectively perform Athen's ostracisms by canceling everyone, and invoking emotion to rule all. Just like in Athens, groups of people can be manipulated by charismatic individuals and lead the masses astray.

It's an interesting process. It shows how extremes can lead to quite painful and problematic results. Many governments were developed out of response to something: Athens in response to tyrants, the American government in response to Britain rule, and the internet saints in response to the internet's wild-wild-west. It is no different than when a child is determined to parent their children as differently as possible as their parents, in response to the parts they disliked.

The trick, however, is not ignoring the parts that did work. It's through balance that we achieve Aristotle's Golden Mean.

People want an ally, not an opinion. As a creator, one of my first tenets before starting was just to be myself, say what I am thinking, and never be afraid of touching subjects because of perceived backlash. I get all the same comments and they only grow more frequent and louder the more you grow. Grifter, fence sitter, racist, enlightened centrist, bigot, woke, fascist. Many throw labels because they just want to hear someone who affirms their position, not someone who challenges it or strives for balance. Fuck em, be yourself and call out the bullshit.
