UltraFresh Front Load: How to Change the Washer Door Swing

I have a Samsung ultra fresh I flipped the door and now it won't shut I didn't have the bar

Can this be done w/o a lock bar mine wasn’t provided if it was the installer or delivery ppl took it with them!

DO.NOT.USE.THE.GE.PROVIDED.LOCKBAR! Everything was going perfectly, until we tried to remove the GE provided lockbar.. We tried straight back gently, firmly, a slight lift up and out, a slight push down and out, jiggling it while pulling, having multiple people try everything just like in the video (gently) …but, ultimately it did break off inside the part. We spent hours trying to fish/shake/dig the broken piece out with zero luck.
This is definitely a design flaw (or maybe intentional by GE for parts sales???) that almost everyone using their provided GE tool winds up in this situation. Ordered a replacement part off Amazon ($22) and used my FINGERS to hold it in place and it went perfectly. Wished I would have read more of the comments in this video before starting and just used my dang fingers from the start.
Again…DO NOT USE THEIR LOCKBAR…especially if you plan on doing any wash before your replacement part comes in. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

What lock bar? I never once saw it. Did the installer throw it away? I’ll never know.

The hinge assembly does not sit flush in the cavity where the striker assembly sat. The hinge assembly is just VERY slightly to big. I could perhaps force it, yet.... I have not yet given Costco or GE time to respond yet. Will try to come back and give an updated solution.

Alright everyone. You don't need the lock bar tool. You just need to hold the gray part firmly when unscrewing it and screwing it back in and be very careful when tilting it out of the hole.

Thanks for the clear concise instructions. I got this done with NO issues. I don't know what some people down in comments are referring to about wiring problems and getting door error messages. There should be no issues with this at all. I did each segment as I watched the video and paused the video between each step. EASY!

I completed this on a new UltraFresh Washer. There is no part in this process that goes as smoothly as the video except for screw removal. One main problem is aligning parts on their new location. Some of the plastic doesn't align perfectly until you make numerous micro adjustments. Some of the new screw locations have not had screws in them prior and it is hard to get the screw all the way in at first. I used the lock bar to remove the terminal block but only half inserted when I could due to the scary comments here about breaking parts. Putting the door back on is very difficult even with the hook to hold it. The screws do not line up until many small adjustments are made while trying to jockey a heavy and awkward door.. The wires only plug back in in one way like someone mentioned so this is one less thing to go wrong, Glad it is over. Dryer waits for another day., ,

Does the lock bar do anything besides hold up the latch so it doesn't fall in the machine?

How about the dryer door changing the swing.

purchased from Lowes- did not get a lock. bar-- can it be done with another type of tool? if not where do I get one?

Just had my lock bar tool break off too. Spent an hour trying to get the piece of plastic out of the locking assembly. I got it, but the assembly must have broken from the lock bar tool as the door won’t close now. Very disappointed in GE for this video not addressing that fatal flow as others have pointed out. Same is true in the printed directions in the manual that came with the unit.

Is the matching dryer the same process?

I had no problem doing this without the lock bar. I just used my hands, and made sure i didnt let it fall inside the unit.

A number of people in the comments have mentioned their Lockbar getting stuck. I just did mine tonight, used the Lockbar, and pulled it out no problem by pulling straight back, as in the video. I will note, I played the video at 25% speed at that part, to make sure I was inserting the Lockbar right-side up and not upside down. I probably played that part back three times @ 25% speed, and in full screen.

There were a couple other spots where I had to go 25% speed and repeat a few times. I often wanted to see the exact way they pushed or pulled something. Definitely made the job easier.

The only thing I found incorrect in the video, is where it mentions to not tighten the screws on the striker. The GE manual does not mention this, and I found that it's (nearly) impossible to tighten them to a point where the striker plate won't move. When you tighten them all the way down, the striker plate is still designed to slide around. I at first left them pretty loose, per the video, but I could just imagine them jiggling free one day and falling out, with washer chaos to follow. Tighten them down and just make sure the striker still has some play to move left/right.

As others have noted DO NOT USE THE LOCKBAR. It will easily break off inside when you attempt to remove it. Just happened to me. When it breaks off, it damages the locking assembly and the door will not shut. Just had to buy a new assembly from GE, because they have so far refused to put a warning on the video above as several have asked here. On hold with GE Consumer Relations regarding this to ask them to refund the purchase cost.

Tell me why I cannot align the hooks to attach the door to the washer face? I’m at the last step and I cannot for the life of me get the hooks to stay in the holes provided!! 🤯🥵

Where do I get the lock bar?

I never received that lock bar with a new washer and a new dryer. I think the store stole them for their service techs. It cost me over $25 to buy one. When I got to the actual work, there were all sorts of problems. For one, the hinge mount would not fit flat on the washer body. I found 2 alignment pins on the back that did not line up with the holes in the washer body. Had to remove them. It was not a pleasant experience. Looking at my dryer, the hardware looks entirely different for the door. I'm not going to mess with it.

WARNING lock bar gets easily stuck and then GE will refuse to replace the jammed door, overpriced shitty units avoid at all costs!!! Modern day appliances are all a scam so don't be a dip shit and overpay thinking more expensive is better when they'll just crap out in a year or two anyhow woops hope you bought a warranty

DO NOT USE THE LOCKBAR!! That tool broke the lock mechanism. I was lucky to find a replacement part ($50). What a royal pain. Terrible instructions.
