Accounting isn't going to be automated or taken over by AI. Data entry will be, bookkeeping maybe, but accounting will not because like you said, there are human elements involved. AI will be a "tool" for accounting

It is kind of boring work, but can really earn a decent salary. Even working for Uncle Sam as an IRS agent isn't that bad. I'm retired now, but if I were still working, I would be earning approx. $150K as a Grade 13, Step 10.

I have an Associates in Drafting and Design, and I am transitioning into accounting. I'm currently a 1099-er doing draft work for some local contractors (and other draftsmen), but I also want to expand into doing take-offs, bids, estimates, project management, and essentially expanding into a design-build business.

Here’s a different point of view. I think getting an accounting degree and CPA was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. I’ve not liked it since my very first day in public accounting and here I am 30 years later. When I was starting out in public acct we worked a lot of hours and my thinking was to make the move to corporate acctg and the hours would be better. But for me at least in my current role as Controller for a private equity owned company my hours are significantly higher than my public accounting hours. I make way more money than I thought I ever would but it hasn’t been worth it. I look at my bother and others I know who make significantly less but they are done with work each day after 8 hours and have their weekends to do whatever they want to. I wish I would’ve left this profession a long time ago, but it’s too late, I’m going to stick it out for about 3 more years and call it a day.

$60,000/year??? LOL Thats less than entry level pay for almost every trade.

The challenge with accounting is needing to become a CPA which you often have to do while your are already working full time which can be difficult. It is hard to move up or to new jobs without it. However, once you have the designation the possibilities are limitless and accountants can wear many different hats in both public practice and companies. With automation happening, more of the routine data entry work for accountants is disappearing but it has created opportunities to get involved with technology.

If you do not speak English fluently, should never consider this major. Even you have GPA over 3.67, it is still hard to get a job. No one will trust you.

I am a Respiratory Therapist going into Accounting. I love the combination and being able to work in both. I would say that RTs make a bit more than what is in the video, but that was three years ago. A healthcare person can bring great communication skills into the area of accounting. As far as automation replacing accountants, I heard a great quote....Onlly Accountants not using automation will be replaced with accountants that do.

Honestly i hesitated between a master degree in finance and accounting but i ended up picking accounting because its harder and more annoying than finance 😂 so i picked that then will probably do finance after that

Accounting is the language of any business. All business numbers start and end with Accounting. Even Finance cannot do anything w/o the accounting data (financial statements). Do you wanna really understand a business? Accounting. No sugar coating.
