One thing not often mentioned - is that William the Conqueror gradually stamped out slavery (Churls) across England.
Under the Anglo-Saxon rule - people captured as a consequence of local conflicts, debt or poverty - were often forced into slavery.
William gradually put an end to such slavery - even though it still existed in areas outside his immediate control such as Wales & Scotland.

He also unintentionally set in motion the end of slavery by taxing slave owners in Britain for every slave they enslave they had to pay a fine to him which was written in the doomsday book and used centuries later to convince the courts that they could tax slave owners globally and bring an end to slavery in the process

Fantastically detailed documentary of William The Conqueror. This is the most I've thus far learned about the historically impactful figure. I do have a question and an extra bit of "fun-fact" trivia:
Q: Didn't one of William's sons drown during a boating voyage accident while returning to England from France, or was that one of William's grandsons?
FF: In the 1951, Disney animated film adaptation of "Alice In Wonderland," at the beginning of the story, when Alice is receiving a history lesson from her sister, the history lesson that Alice's sister is reading is about William The Conqueror. (I am unaware of whether or not this scenario was a part of the original Carol Lewis novel, but it is the scenario in the Disney adaptation.)

This reminds me of the childhood struggles and dangers of other sons of nobility who ended up being very strong rulers.

Good video but just a little comment : you keep giving the impression that the kingdom of France exists side to side with Flanders, Normandy, Brittany. It’s so on the map and in the voice over comments.

WHEREAS actually the various duchies of Flanders and Brittany, the county of Flanders were part of the Kingdom of France, albeit the executive and judiciary powers of the King were in practice quite limited in the 11th century outside of the territories he personally owned (feudalism).

They don't mention the viking decent. The ruler of Normandy was a viking called Rollo.
The Normand conquest was because tge viking constant invasion of Wessex and were weakened by these wars and William used that weakness and attacked and killed king Alfred the great
