As you complete your PMP exam application, you will be asked if you want to join PMI. The next question asks if you want to join your local PMI chapter. You should answer "Yes." Here's why:

- Build relationships - you will be networking with local project management professionals at chapter meetings and other activities.
- Gain knowledge - exchange ideas and information with your peers. Learn from the speakers at monthly chapter meetings. That knowledge will help you deliver even better projects.
- Employment opportunities - whether you are a prospective employer or employee, you'll make profitable connections at local chapter functions.
- Earn PDUs - to maintain your PMP credential, you must record 60 PDUs (professional development units) within three years. Chapter meetings are an easy way to earn your PDUs. Here's an example:
If your chapter meetings include a keynote speaker, record 1 PDU.
If your chapter meetings include an educational session, record 1 PDU. That's 2 PDUs for each monthly meeting.
If your chapter meets 11 times a year, that's 22 PDUs per year, or 66 PDUs in three years.

You can locate your local chapter from this PMI website page: https://www.pmi.org/membership/chapters
