Just moved into a very old cottage with a log burner. Struggled to get it going but after watching this video the fire is roaring!! Thank you for the tips xx
ОтветитьI was recommended to try this method of lighting our stove by our chimney sweep after we had problems with a cold flue leading to smoke back-flowing into the room. Not only did this method seem to fix this problem by getting heat drawing up the flue straight away, but it also seems to help the inside of the glass remain clear. Impressed! Thank you very much!
ОтветитьTHANK YOU! I'm staying at a friend's house and was not having success...now it's flaming and I'm going to shut the door that was cracked open for about 5 minutes...
ОтветитьCan a stove be up on a high up like waist level hearth? For an elderly person so they don’t have to bend down
ОтветитьThe penny has just dropped - you knocked it down, really! The kindling at the top creates a lot of heat at the top of the fire, warming up the flue and creating a good draught preventing smoke build-up. Brilliant! Thank you!
ОтветитьI tried this technique - it worked a treat. Thank you 🔥
ОтветитьIt's not new....may be new to you...but it's not new...better choice of word...a different way...
ОтветитьThat’s a lot of kindling you are using
ОтветитьHave you stopped presenting Pawn stars with chumlee?
ОтветитьBeen using this method in my Clearview stove for many years now, never fails .
ОтветитьIs it with a match 😊
ОтветитьIF your stove doesn't pull then something is wrong with your chimney. We have two Clearview stoves and some newspaper and some nicely split sticks and some smaller logs on top will have it roaring in seconds. We did have our 400yr old chimney professionally lined. I can push in the bottom feed within 30 seconds and front air in about five minutes.
Ответитьlol, I'll stick to lighting a fire as I always have and it's NOT this way
ОтветитьTried it and it went out, don’t need to keep relighting my stove as it stays in all night and most of the following day as well
ОтветитьThank you so much. I was looking for a way to reduce smoke when trying to start a fire and this did the trick. My stove is soooo much older than the one in the video, but it still worked. So glad I came across this video
ОтветитьTop tip thank you, often had a room full of smoke, this has helped a lot.
ОтветитьI use the fluff from the filter from my dryer. It’s a fantastic fire starter free too
ОтветитьAfter relying on a multifuel stove for heating and hot water for the past 20 years , enough was enough - fuel cost increased 300% and the so-called smokeless briquettes that are the only form of fuel available in the UK since coke making disappeared , are so full of filler to make the stuff virtually incombustible - seasoned hardwood is hard to source and expensive and to cap it all my chainsaw packed up.
Just fitted a Worcester Bosch combi - bliss - the convenience factor is unbelievable - and no more dust and stink.
The stove has been removed, fettled, a new glass fitted , resprayed with anthracite hi-temp paint , put back in and a l.e.d. flame effect screen put inside - all the effect without the hassle. Stoves are great if you've got access to free fuel and don't mind the labour - after 20 years I have moved on.
Anyone can light a stove with firelighters. Why waste your breath?
ОтветитьIt works well but time consuming, I start my fires completely different, I like to make the river of Moses and fill it up with small woods and then a small piece of log on top, and it flies!
ОтветитьRub 2 stick together lol
ОтветитьAny reason why im occasionally getting condensation running down outside of myHeta flue
ОтветитьWhat about with a rear flue?
ОтветитьI live in Minnesota and when it’s -20 in the shade (lol) I use a blow torch to heat up the flue before I light the fire. Never have a problem with smoke.
ОтветитьDon't use petrol...
ОтветитьHi Pete, just wondering if you can give us some advice on how to keep our wood from burning too quickly. We have a stovac stove and feel like it burns through wood too quickly
ОтветитьBeen lighting my stove like this for years, to me it was just common sense
ОтветитьI was wondering how wet wood you could get away with putting at the bottom of a top down fire. Has anyone tested this?
ОтветитьJust for your Information!! Your fan should be at the back of your stove top????
ОтветитьThat bit of advice at the end about the cold plug of air was amazing! Thanks,
ОтветитьVery nice. Very clear. TY
ОтветитьThanks bud
ОтветитьThat's a good tip for a cold start but my Norwegian stove never goes cold runs continuously
ОтветитьWhen a customer phones to say they are having difficulty lighting it is 100% when using top down. Top down isn’t required in our mild weather in the UK. You are talking rubbish man - never leave the door open!
ОтветитьNice mate. My chimney sweeper showed me the exact same method and since then, I am only lighting my fires that way. It works very well.
ОтветитьTried this method in my wood furnace. It works but it's slow to light when you need quick heat.
ОтветитьI tried it this morning and it worked just as you demonstrated. I have been struggling to get a good fire going till I watched your video. I think building the kindling cabin high is the key. Thank you!!
ОтветитьHi, thank you for the video, we’ve just moved into a house with log burner which I’ve never used before. Should I wait till it gets to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and then start to close the vent and should I close the primary air vent completely or leave it half open and then leave the air wash fully open.
ОтветитьI use top down lighting on my coal fired 7 1/4” gauge steam locomotive. In my case coal in first kindling on top with finest kindling last on top. I get to full working boiler pressure in 50 minutes, more quickly than the alternative (old way) of doing it, but with much less smoke (smoke indicating wasted chemical energy).
I’ll be modifying the ashpan to cope with more ash and then go to wood burning only.
It’s quite a big loco (based on a narrow gauge prototype), capable of hauling about fifteen passengers… but maybe I’m digressing!
Fire starter and 12 pieces of kindling. This has to be a joke.
ОтветитьSawdust soaked in kerosene
ОтветитьFabulous.
I’ve spent ages trying to figure out a way to light a fire. This is the way I’ll do it from now on. Worked first time. Warm as Toast within twenty minutes.
Thanks
What if your stove is to small to get much more than one big log in and try to squeeze in some kindling
ОтветитьWhat matches are they you use???
ОтветитьHow to start a wood - burning stove:
1: Open the door of the stove.
2: Fill the stove with plastic and bits of polystyrene.
3: Pour a glass-full of petrol (you american fools call it gasolene) over the plastic.
4: Climb on the roof and drop a lighted match or petrol-soaked rag down the chimney.
5: Boom.
If the stove has a rear vent providing air the door never needs to be open to light fire.
ОтветитьVery helpful video which got me started when we bought our stove.
Can you tell me: What stove fan is featured in the video?
Ours is pretty noisy
How long do you typically keep the door slightly open before shutting
