I know, as a Catholic man, how hard a struggle it has been in my life to temper myself and direct my desires to God. Its a source of joy in that I'm married and have children, but it's also a deep source of pain in the damage I've created for myself and others in the past.

You are two men who speak from your flesh you speak of your failings and how much you lack, you are supposed to be full of the Holy Spirit shining with the glory of god, how beautiful it would be to wake up of a morning and be in perfect peace in heart and mind, a perfect stillness, a perfect Silence, not full of a thousand voices or having a chaotic heart, if I listen to the doctrines of men then I live in the world of man and the power of God does not exist, salvation is producing the good it's not producing the bad and seeking God to save you, yet will you listen to the truth and received what you have longed to receive or do you continue to listen to the lies and never received it, are you willing to do what it takes.

I love this. My dad passed away suddenly one month after my son was born. For many years I was angry at my dad, and we never quite were able to relate to each other, and having a conversation with him was so difficult. But when I became a dad, I realized just how much my dad loved me and sacrificed for me. He didn't wake up every 25-30 years and go to a job that treated him poorly without love in his heart for his family. When my dad passed away, I knew he loved me, and that was healing.

At 1hr 47mins, you reference St Thomas Aquinas' discussion of the marital act being used for mutual comfort. This is from his commentary on the 10 commandments, on the 6th commandment. However, he doesn't actually say "mutual comfort", but is actually talking about rendering the debt - the mutual comfort here is in the easing of concupiscence for the affected spouse (ie, the reason why you request the debt). This doesn't really apply to people past childbearing years since the passions of lust naturally decrease with age, so this reference does not support the position you argue for.

Interesting you bring up “Crash.” The scene with the racist cop saving the woman he abused was one that still sticks with me because it was a huge surprise. The other cop shows he’s also capable of both virtue and vice, but I won’t spoil it….

It is possible, as I am slowly learning, that this longing for Divine union can exist in this lifetime throughout he gift of living in the Divine Will.

Thank you for this Matt and Christopher, TOB has changed my life in so many ways. It has been the launching pad for my return to the Church.
Also, it comes at a time when comprehensive sexuality education is being served in our schools without fear of its repercussions. I hope that someday, sooner, I will also learn how to spread this Good News to the young and to adults

Has anyone read Ronald Conte’s interpretation of the church’s teaching on what is allowed during the martial act? Because according to him, no man could even touch his wife in a masturbatory way during the sexual act 😳 I would like to know how Mr West would respond about this. I can’t argue with what I read, but also wonder where that leaves most women during the marital act.
