Proverbs 12:1 "He who loves discipline loves knowledge. He who despises correction is stupid." Direct and blunt. If you want to improve in any skill, first apply yourself to the basic disciplines required to shape your abilities. For the Christian this is prayer, regular bible reading and study, resisting temptation, attending worship, checking in wiht your accountability partner. These disciplines are key to growing in knowledge.
Be open to being corrected. That's key to gaining wisdom. For when we apply what we know in performance, allow a wise or experienced practioner, a coach, to observe us and make corrections. Any athlete knows this process is key to improving their skills and thus their game.
The same is true for us in living as Christians. This includes spiritual warfare. With a wise Christian friend, debrief your experience in resisting temptation, in interceding for others, in fighting the devil. Listen to your friend's feeback, correction. Thank them.
